Hi,

Im in the proccess of redesigning the schools intranet system.

What do you all use and what content should go on the intranet.

The intranet site will be mainly used for students and a staff section (staff room) which will need to be secure.

any help, ideas, tips much appreciated

I to also say go with Sharepoint, it's great. As what to have on it, well I would have student annoucements were staff can post messages which the whole year group can read. I would have pages for each subject so students can access learning resources and also discuss the lesson.

I'm in the planning stages of this myself. Certainly all the sorts of induction material new staff would normally pick up over a period of time in school. Internal phone numbers, school maps/plans (in pdf format) how to use the VLE (if it applies) what the classroom has to offer, projectors/audio that sort of thing, possibly photos of staff with names, the school day, i.e. registration is at 08:30, First Period 08:45, how to take electronic registration, email accounts etc. Similarly with pupils but at their level.

I'm hoping to use Sharepoint but I've a struggle getting this idea (not the intranet) off the drawing board.

We have sharepoint installed on one of our servers but havn't had a chance to even look into it yet. From the brief time i spent looking at it, it looked good but was a bit complicated.

Anyone have any tutorials on using sharepoint and the kind of things you can use it for.

As long as you've server 2003 you're licensed to use the WSS (windows sharepoint services) version.

Its an awesome product - M$ finally did something right.

A quick search for sharepoint on the forums should show how many people use it.

Also check out the 40 free templates microsoft have available that show the different configs available

We also use Sharepoint as our staff / intranet solution. It was only launched at the start of September but I am adding too it all the time.

do you have moodle in your area?? because if so i would not put activities another things like that on as sugested! this will take up your server space were as moodle is all backed up offsite :) we just have links to sites that are frequentkly used such as our moodle, school e-mail and we also have a message of the day to get the pupils thinking!

Only if its a hosted moodle will it be backed up offsite.

The majority of moodle users would have an onsite server hosted themselves
