nicholab Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Why don't the Royals ever consider sending their child to the local state school? What's wrong with a normal school?

pete Posted June 16 Posted June 16 A more selective school with a decent perimeter who're familiar with/know how to handle discreet bodyguards is the alternative to "you get to be locked in a tower and home schooled with private tutors and you grow up to be even stranger and out-of-touch than the average royal". See also: Royal goes on combat deployment. Newspapers decided to spread word that royal goes on combat deployment. Royal withdrawn from combat deployment due to increased danger/more enthusiasm from opponents toward royal and their colleagues. I'm very much not a royalist, but I can see the appeal of not having your kids killed because of random idiots. 2
nicholab Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 Why can't the state school family get used to bodyguards? I think most schools are now supposed to have a decent perimeter after various school security issues starting with Dunblane. I would also not like my children killed by random idiots.

So it's blindingly obvious why he goes to Eton, i don't really know what you want me to say? 1) Staff are trained/used to dealing with high security children so are less likely to leak to the press and become secuirty risks 2) As much as i don't like saying it Eton is one of the best schools in the country and like i said before, he is the future King 3) He is the future King, not a member of joe public 4) It just makes sense 2
nicholab Posted June 17 Author Posted June 17 Has never had an Ofsted inspection so how can it be one of the best schools? What is its value-added score is it taking failing or low-performing students and adding value?
Rob_D Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) To be fair, all the rich people I know sent their kids to private school, so there may be a much simpler answer in "They can afford to so why wouldn't they?". Aren't independent schools still inspected by the ISI? https://www.isi.net/about/who-we-are/ Edited June 17 by Rob_D 1

If the School you have sent your child is unsafe, then move them to a better school. How may of the worlds press/paparazzi/nut jobs have you got wanting to get near your child that requires the Police to provide specialised Protection Officers? Security is the answer.

I would also like for your children to not be killed by random idiots but I suspect they aren't as high a profile target. If its any consolation they are paying the VAT on the school fees. You can make numerous arguments against the Royal family and you can make numerous arguments against public schools. But a Royal sending their child to a public school is just par for the course. 1
Roberto Posted June 17 Posted June 17 19 hours ago, nicholab said: So my child has to go to an unsafe school If your child went to a "normal state school" alongside the children of the royal family, I could well argue that this would make your child less safe - collateral damage in an attempt to attack the royal family children and all that. So it turns out that the royal family are doing you a personal solid by sending their children to a private school. Who'd have thought it eh? 4
jthompson Posted June 17 Posted June 17 I'm not sure I'd want a royal prince attending my daughters' school. The social side of things is challenging enough for them as it is, without the world's most intense social game of win/lose being played out around them. 😐 Whilst the school might technically be up for the job, I'd worry about how much focus the school would have to spend on the task of managing that risk. SLT would likely have to spend a lot of their time attending to the risk of photographers (both professional and amateur), kidnappers, etc. at the expense of the rest of the pupils. I'm not sure regular families, (especially of any LAC/PLAC pupils) would appreciate the white heat of public interest so close to home. Privacy nightmare. 1
DalekSec Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Other questions in the same vain: Why does the PM live in a guarded house? Why can't he live in a council house? Why do MI5 need their own building? Why can't they share an office block with the Chinese mega embassy? Why does the King have a private car? Why can't he use an Uber? 1

Why can't he use an Uber? i'd add the main aspect of security for those people is nobody knowing in advance where or when they will be in public spaces, the King can visit a secondary school and do some painting classes and bring along minimal security but for Remembrance day they have snipers on the rooftop everywhere and are welding manhole covers shut. 1

jthompson Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Also, assuming that a prince would be galloping to school on a horse each morning, that might make the school-run traffic even more calamatous. And how many schools' bike sheds could accommodate something like a Hanoverian Warmblood anyway?!

We can have opinions but we all know why a Royal child will go to a VERY prestigious private school. One of the many reasons why state schools have their budgets squeezed. Edited June 17 by mthomas08

Davit2005 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 (edited) 23 minutes ago, Rob_D said: As Downing st. is government owned property would that sort of class it as a council house? 😁 AI response Quote Council tax for the residential property at 10 Downing Street (and the PM's adjacent flat at 11 Downing Street) is £2,095.70 for the 2026/2027 tax year. [1] This cost is determined by the following details: Billing Authority: Westminster City Council Council Tax Band: Band H Location context: Because Westminster City Council traditionally levies some of the lowest local council tax rates in the country, the Band H charge remains relatively modest compared to the rest of the UK I guess that as it is us paying his council tax maybe we should not be too upset, lol. Comparing with where I live maybe should be a bit upset. Quote In Watford, a property in Council Tax Band H is subject to an annual charge of £4,893.40. This is applicable if your property falls into the highest valuation band, which represents an estimated 1991 property value exceeding £320,000 Edited June 17 by Davit2005 1

They really don't - it's security theatre and intended to keep the children in. Most schools around here have metal fences (the thick square welded mesh variety) that create toeholds, especially for smaller feet. Quote I would also not like my children killed by random idiots. Vanishingly unlikely they'll be killed by a rando at school. Statistically (and in my experience working in education, anecdotally) more likely to be harmed by family members. Unless your parents/family are rich/powerful or are investigating the rich/powerful. 1
