Impero / Ed Pro Alternatives ??

Hi all,

 

Our Impero is up for renewal.  

 

Are any of you guys using a better alternative?

 

Impero is so buggy and takes up so much technician time there must be a better solution.

 

I've had a quick look at Net Support School.  Is anyone out there using it and how does it fare ?

Is 'Okaaay' at best.  We get a periodic server deaths ending up in reinstalling the whole lot.

 

I'm looking for a slicker alternative.

Ativion (formerly known as Impero) now offer a different/better solution than their Impero software so worth getting in touch with them for a demo of their new product.

I know you will get mixed feedback on here about SENSO but we (other thant the first couple of weeks of the term) have really settled down with it and is doing exactly what we need.

We heavily use Impero EdPro and found it to be the best around, we tried other but couldn't find any others that offered everything it can do.

It does have quite a few bugs and hopefully they'll get ironed out as it is frustrating but would rather have the occasional frustration than getting in multiple products to replace it.

Looks like I'll be signing up with Senso shortly as we're an M365/Intune only school with limited on-site server resources, so a cloud solution is necessary. It's a toss-up between Senso and NetSupport, but Senso are cheaper and more established in the cloud side of things.

We use NetSupport School, DNA, and Notify. We've always found their software pretty good, along with their support.

Senso works quite well for us - V2 has seen some improvements that have resolved a few remaining issues.

We've just moved from Impero Edu Pro to AB Tutor. For classroom monitoring and as a teaching tool, it is comparable.

It saved us around £12k over 5 years

Is anyone using Senso with Smoothwall firewall. we trialed Senso but was coming up stuck with the requirement senso needs TLS 1.3 which Smoothwall doesnt support.

 

Now we also was running RM CC4 and this may of been a issue at the time, But we have pulled CC4 hopfully this wont be a problem in the future. Will speak to Senso at Bett this year and see if they have worked somthing out with Smoothwall.

You could switch to the cloud filter on the devices which run senso - that should stop em fighting. We did try to get senso working, I think 1.3 is a red herring here, there's something else it doesnt like.

I was asked to try Veyon to replace Impero ed pro since some staff find it frustratingly buggy recently .. im concerned it’s open source , has anyone tried Veyon ?

I tried that a few years ago for a primary, it was impressive for what it was and did work to a point, but in the end Impero won out as it generally just worked. Was a while ago so interested to see if it's improved.

Open source isn't a problem - the vast majority of the time being open source means something is more secure and more trustworthy, in a school the only issue is likely to be support as you'd be on your own with it short of their community.

mikkydoos: what features are you after? We've always used the NetSupport suite, which covers a bunch of things.

I don't think anything in NetSupport is cloud-y, but might be worth double checking with them.

classroom.cloud is NetSupport's cloud offering. Sadly it's all "Request a quote" and not public pricing like Senso.

We tried multiple classroom management systems, we settled with classroom.cloud as it just worked (unlike some others we tried). Cloud based so teachers can view their class from any PC, and the cost wasn't too bad.
