powerpoint flicking pc back to single screen

Hi,

 

one of our PCs when you go out of powerpoint, it flicks from duplicate to single screen but its not all the time, its every so often.

 

we appear to be on the latest graphics (nothing in the dell command update) and the latest windows updates.

 

Has anyone come across this? it only does it on the app not the web based powerpoint but not every powerpoint.

Odd question, but do you use bromcom? or does your MIS have a "projector" mode.

 

We have it sometimes here that bromcom messes with the duplication setting

Yup, we're seeing it on Windows 11 as I migrate staff laptops over. Annoying, but easily fixed. That is, if staff can remember which TWO WHOLE KEYS they need to press.

It only appears to do it on this one PC (that im aware off), it did it when we had a projector in and then we replaced it with a screen but it is still does it but not as often

I've been dealing with this for the last few weeks since we got new interactive boards. I think it might be linked to Presenter View in PowerPoint. Prior to the interactive boards, we had VGA splitters in all classrooms and didn't notice this issue. I suspect that because it only saw one output, Presenter View was disabled. It may be possible to disable Presenter View using a registry key, although I haven't tried this yet.

 

One member of teaching staff thinks it happens when you press ESC to exit a PowerPoint presentation, rather than allowing the slideshow to run to the end and exit normally. I'm not sure how accurate this is.

Definitely sounds like Presenter View getting in the way. This seems right. Bug with powerpoint /  intel GPU for years. Sometimes it stays in extended mode or random things happen. I set a group policy for ALL staff. Powerpoint ADMX

 

see attached.  Worked for me. Test first of course!

I've passed these 2 onto the teacher to have a play around

If the above didn't work then i'll have to speak to the trust about the GPO edit

we had this as well, the GPO/regfix for presenter mode fixed it in most cases. Had this since Win 10 / Office 2016. Always thought it was one of those MS "features" that did more harm than good as per usual

Unsure if im doing something wrong but it hasn't solved it for us.

 

i log on the admin account and import the admx into the users then enable it and restart (we're on an intune network and on windows 11).

 

Is there something else i am meant to do?

Had this problem for years, different os'es, different hardware (well, all HP)

 

I now use HDMI splitters, 95% of staff thats fine and the projection screen is just replicated and no issues. The ones who need dual screens I just fit cheap Nvidia 730's or 710's and then never have any issues with powerpoint or dual screens.

I use the Lindy ones, 

 

Cheap enough and not had one failure in the 3 or 4 years I have been using them. I dont use them for audio as I always use external audio in classroom setups, so if you are looking to pipe audio to display device you may have to do some testing as to which one suits your needs.

Hi,

 

Ok, I am not familiar with intune. On a Server OS, I would import the admx, create a policy .. go to the policy in the image and ensure it is set to enable (enable the disable policy),

 

As it is a user policy, I applied it to all staff users OU and it worked.

 

Just make sure you get the one for the right version of Office you use.

 

As I said.. not sure how Intune works.. never used it sorry.

Thanks, i think i was using a 2014 one and we're on 365 so might explain it so i'll try again
