What kind of idiot would design a system with a hidden username that you can't see or change?

The same kind of idiot that decides to upend the entire MFA auth system and replace it without any prior warning in the middle of a term, leading to a couple of weeks of headaches and issues.

I don't have much patience when it comes to CPOMS anymore. Their support continues to be useless. Since they've been brought out, it is one problem after another.

Don't know about you, but I was getting regular status updates via email every month or two during the migration process (including when the whole thing went down for all users), although the notification of accounts that haven't migrated 2FA from Meritec to Auth0 (and have just been clicking "Skip 2FA" as they don't need the elevated access most of the time) was sent the day before, but written as if it wouldn't be happening for a few days yet, but was sent to all users who hadn't migrated as well.

We seem to be back up and running - didn't get through to support and can't identify any rhyme or reason as to which of our staff were stuck out, and those that could get in...

Just joining in the communal rant here. CPOMS support has fallen off a cliff.

Not able to adjust any user privileges or manage user accounts at all. It's been that way for a couple of weeks with absolutely nothing back from CPOMS support.

Thanks @Scifigirl for the link to the status page. I'll be bookmarking that.

Though when you log on now theres a big thing about it

Awesome, thank you. I'm sure I navigated in there originally but perhaps is was broken when I tried.

Yeah, I'm going to say that it was broken when I originally tried :)

When speaking to Support they apparently did send emails out about it like the previous upgrades to MFA. Maybe it's because I opted out of marketing emails when they sent out the one for VisitorSafe (along with all the really frequent ones aimed at DSLs) that for some reason actual service announcements also fall under marketing for them?

Problem is, there's now no way to disable someone's 2FA because it's no longer in in the StudentSafe portal, and hasn't been added to the new Auth0 portal either.

Also the fact that they have to say "make sure to select email instead of text as we'll be removing the phone number options" makes me think this was prematurely rolled out.

Would have made much more sense to roll out everything in one go, rather than piece by piece which has caused so many issues for them as they're having to put temporary bits in place in the old portal when they're not even going to use it in the long-term plan.

I got about a billion announcements about upcmoing changes to MFA, but my problems weren't with MFA, it was just basic user admin. I guess I dismissed things too readily. The site shows a notification about changes to admin when hitting the CPOMS dashboard page, but not when hitting the CPOMS admin page, which is what I had bookmarked as it's pretty much the only area of CPOMS that I use.

i'm waiting for the issues surrounding permissions for different products, being managed in the main portal.

the permissions for CPOMS are in no way the same as the permissions (problematic that it is) in staffsafe.

Apropos of nothing, I am just taking this opportunity to note that while a market leader, CPOMS is a service not without its problems and flaws.

Are they any worse than others' flaws? SIMS, Bromcom, MLS, Classcharts  all  have (had?) similar mega threads here and elsewhere, and they all* still get new customers - because eventually they improved/stabilised. Things improve, things regress, but a perfect (or even "good") reputation from time to time they do not have. And it is important that we can share and talk about this.

*even SIMS, though they are perhaps in single digits, and it was contractual shenanigans not service delivery/stability  that really did for them - don't upset the "money people"!

What a load of rubbish the latest support is. Transferred to some call centre somewhere round the world.

Getting nowhere!

Came looking for this thread, can confirm CPOMs support is still utter pants.  A week to reply to a case where we had no users listed in the admin centre so I couldn't assign DSL permissions to relevant staff.  Support reply eventually came through and was a copy paste of 'How to change staff roles in CPOMs' , thankfully the users had reappeared in the admin centre by that point so I could do it myself.

I had a similar issue (no users being listed in Main Menu -> Admin -> User and Contacts) and it turned out the reason for that was the dropdown box at the top of the page needing to be set to All Buildings. YMMV

We are having the same problems. CPOMS went from being one of the best supports to one of the worst in recent years. Tickets go unanswered or takes weeks, no way to view open tickets or even to know what a ticket is about. Responses are generic cut and pasts.

Constant background changes being made that make no sense and are not communicated. Like the roles being moved out of the school and into all buildings. On top of that I lost permissions to assign new staff to the DSL group because they changed how groups work but didn’t tell us. Support reply was a copy paste 'How to change staff roles in CPOMs" which didn't cover the fact we now need permission to assign each group.

They've grown too big and forgotten to invest in adeqaute I.T. support.

Rinse and repeat - with schools, companies, organisations.

What org these days can function without IT, they can try...

e.g. Inventry did exactly the same - market leader >  bottom market in 3-5x years

Yes agree on Inventry. Also see everything TES has touched. All the SchoolCloud stuff, Classcharts etc.

Education IT Software goes in cycles of

  • New Product, modern design/setup with a good development team
  • Builds a good customer base & offers great support
  • New features are added regularly.
  • Either gets bought out by a bigger player, or grows to a certain size
  • Stops innovating, adding new features & cuts development/support
  • Leaves the product to wither on the vine
  • Starts milking existing contracts, treating customers badly & makes it harder to move away

Cycle repeats with a new company.

Inventry I would say is in the "Stops innovating" stage currently & on the cusp of withering.... with sign-in system being the new upstart.

TES stuff is in the bottom two. Classcharts/The schoolcloud stuff has had virtually no development in years.

Some extent this can happen due to companies having to support a large customer base, but that can only be used as an excuse for a while.

Personally I thought InVentry was at that stage 5+ years ago and Sign-in are well past the stage of being new upstarts.  Though I get what you are saying and agree. CPOMS fall down went they got brought out by a bigger player. That's when it all started to go wrong.

I think the recent upgrades to CPOMS are great. Provided your users are in the right building and are enabled on both the platform and in StudentSafe, leaving enablement as a manual function within the platform but automated into StudentSafe from your MIS sync only for that building, and they are in the right groups with the correct roles assigned to those groups for those buildings for those role(s) and group(s) memberships, with groups and roles suitably named to differentiate between what groups and roles and buildings are, and your admin users have their custom roles assigned to their group(s) at the platform level for any custom groups you might want, then all you need to do is to assign each staff member to their role(s) and group(s) as required, assuming you are in a single-building organisation.

Just don't whatever you do get confused about what roles are versus groups.
