That's when it all started to go wrong. Another example, ParentMail. IRIS don't even have phone support for ParentMail, making getting hold of anyone when we didn't yet have the support site logins configured properly difficult, especially when we needed to reach out to get our MIS Link changed from Integris to Arbor. At one point in the past 5x-10x years, (before Covid) I've noticed a lot of companies started to reduce the basic service offerings for their products/solutions/services. They pulled phone support for example, only offered Chat Support (£) > Email Support > Phone Support > Remote support > Onsite support (££££££) One company said we didn't pay (them) for phone support/phone-level support as an org, only email! Gone are the days of good customer service it seems - yet again linking in with the devaluing of IT thread - schools/SLT don't know how good they've got it with their IT support actually caring a damm about the school whereas their external companies/providers etc generally take the money and run! FragglePete Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 I believe it's part of what Cory Doctorow calls Enshitification. Worth a read (or listen too), https://amzn.eu/d/cKBFC42 and details how tech companies make a great product, burn the initial VC Capital and in stages make the product worst, and worst for the end user. It's aimed really at 'big tech', but lets fact it, we're seeing a steadily decline of what were once decent products in Education. Usually when the original developer sells up (laughs all the way to the bank in the process), and the company taking it over asset strips it, invest in no development or just cuts so many costs it becomes essentially...... sh1t! Not wanting to go off topic from this post, but the book really shines the light on some serious dodgy tactics from the likes of Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, etc..... ! Pete 1

Pete I was thinking about this just the other day and realised that it's why I've taken to gazing at nice wristwatches on the Internet. Absurdly quality-focussed products that run for decades, where rather than the cutting of corners you instead get corners that are beautifully chamfered and polished. It's like a tonic!
