Playing Elite on the Commodore 64, and then later the DOS version on early x86 machines. A few years later, I was talking to Ian Bell, one of the authors, down the pub one night, and tried to convince him that an online version where everyone could just play the game through their new-at-the-time "web browser" might be a good idea - possibly my suggestion that the (also, new-at-the-time) Flash engine would be the perfect development environment might have disuaded him from thinking it a good idea.

I had to play as much on Number Builder or Number Racer the two maths games as I did on the other games.

I was mesmerised, you could actually control what was inside the TV! The same Christmas I was given a Tandy Ogre Eater and I can still remember the sounds it made. [ATTACH=CONFIG]68464[/ATTACH] I, too, had Ogre Eater as my first hand-held electronic game, along with Raise the Devil electronic pinball game. Our first computer was a ZX81 (1K RAM) and the first game I programmed into it was Sniper. Prior to that, my brother was a lab technician in a high school and borrowed a Commodore PET during the holidays and we played Adventure. (The only pet I ever brought home from school was Speedy the Gerbil when I was in nursery!) But the very first game I remember was a Tennis/Squash/Football Pong clone. We had a knockout competition on my 8th birthday. Oh, and remind me to tell you my amusing 'Daley Thompson's Decathlon' story some time!

Skylark56 Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 I remember the very first game console we as a family owned was a Playstation 1, this was back when I was roughly 3 or 4 in 2001/2? And one of the mainstays I would play was Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon. I remember grinding for hours just trying to chase down those stupid egg thieves! Could never get past the Rhynoc race in the Super Bonus World... You can imagine my disbelief that Spyro got remastered recently, I went and bought all the merch they were churning out at that stage for it!

My old man killed me because I ripped off the tap drive plastic shroud and managed to jump the fast forward button to be used the same time as the play button. My first true overclock, halved the loading speed by using fast forward at the same time but also halved the success rate! lol. It was mainly dizzy egg or a game I picked up from my local corner shop called "how to be a complete bast#rd", still don't even understand the game to this day, all I remember is turning into a fridge and wearing a condom as a medallion. As for the console, NES with duck hunt and a light gun, I even brought the Lego NES a year ago and have it on my shelf for nostalgia. First online game, good old fashioned quake on a 14.4k Trust dial up modem using AOL and Netscape Navigator, 486dx 33mhz overclocked to 66mhz. Pressing the mouse button and watching your bullet fire 20 seconds later and knowing you just killed someone random the other side of the world seemed so magical. Now I get my ass handed to me by 15 year olds on Overwatch while my own kids laugh at me... Edited March 29, 2023 by Tefters

Loved some Dizzy Egg but I had completely forgotten HTBACB!!! You could drink too much and the rooms would spin making it almost impossible to go through the doorways as the control system was a weird two x/y panel affair. So many childish jokes that I loved. Constantly throwing things so they went wheee in to the distance. And turning the PC off in the game and your game reset the whole system!! I never got very far, had no idea what the goal was, but so much fun! Think I i may have to find an emulator with it on tonight!
