Rob_D Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Not sure that this will help everyone, but if you're coming from the North West (and/or can get to a nearby airport) return flights to Heathrow (from Manchester) are currently around £116 (cheaper if you're only carrying hand luggage). I know it's not the ideal solution, but figured it might be an option for some. There are apparently flights from Manchester to London City for about £160. I guess it depends how much of the price difference is eaten up getting to Excel from Heathrow.

Even if it is called off, for those who have to travel any distance, the chance of getting cheaper train tickets (well, not if you are using Avanti) may well be out of the window. 1

If you're coming from London Bridge, get the Northern line to Moorgate, then you can change to the Elizabeth line from Liverpool Street station (There is an entrance to the Elizabeth line from Moorgate station) If you're coming from King's Cross, you can get the Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith & City line to Farringdon, then you can get the Elizabeth line from Farringdon. (You could also take the Northern line to Moorgate from King's Cross too, but it's 3 stops as opposed to 1) Once on the Elizabeth line, you'll need the train going to Abbey Wood and alight at Custom House for ExCeL. The Elizabeth line will get you there a lot faster than the DLR. 1

I could find absolutely nothing on the Friday. I was given the option of driving if I wanted, I havent driven through london since before 2010 and I dont intend starting again any time soon....

Avanti would sell you an overpriced ticket to be gaffa-taped to the side of the train if they thought they could get away with it! ETA: I was going to go down by train us usual, but the west coast mainline is closed every weekend for the forseeable future (which is why you can't see tickets for those dates). Mr gee40 and I had theatre tickets and were able to return on Southeastern getting a train after 10pm from Charing Cross. Hopefully it will be the same during BETT, but I probably won’t know until the day
adamcreen Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 My partner commutes into Waterloo and says that even the night before a strike day, the trains will be running totally normally. So on Wednesday there will be evening trains, at least until 10pm, on the major suburban routes out of London. Obvs the intercitys will be more disrupted and may finish earlier. Maybe on Friday everyone will be heading for the hills around 2pm?

They’re running out of time to impact the show. 1
