Brax Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) Hi all, We have a member of staff who uses a large tv as a second monitor to show stuff to the class but would like some way of "freezing" the screen like you would do on the projector. howartp Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 On the Iiyama models it's either the 'pause' button or the blue button on the remote, depending on model. Other makes may vary. 1

DavR Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I'd definitely check the manual for the screen, all of the ones we use have a freeze button on the remote. Blue for freeze seems to be favourite. 1

Good to be cautious, but from the readme file: Teachers often need to have something showing on the projector/big TV at the front of the classroom for the class to be working from, while also doing some other things (marking the roll, assessing student work, preparing material). Some projectors (e.g. Epson) have a ‘pause’ button that has the projector freeze what was being shown when it was pressed, however, many TVs/flatscreens that are increasingly being used in classrooms lack such a feature. Non-teachers might have similar use-cases (if you do, let me know!) So it looks like they made this with Teachers in mind? 1

jslate1980 Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 (edited) Are you deploying software through group policy, PDQ or SCCM/MECM. Universal switch finder says there is a silent switch for the .exe which is "PauseToScreenInstaller.exe" /S. Tested and it works. Edited January 12, 2023 by jslate1980 1

OLED (out of my price range!) may suffer from retention, though some dispute this - but they probably mean with normal TV usage. LED/QLED etc less likely. LCD, definitely - we use one as a display screen and the "frame" of the Powerpoint is visible.

If so, how are you all dealing with an image being paused for long periods of time? A bit yes but not as bad as when flatscreens first came onto the scene, LCD's are the worst. OLED's I believe don't suffer from it as much.
KK20 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Our oldest digital TV in school is around 8 years old. The school logo has been sat in the same spot for that time and it is power cycled from 6pm till 7.30AM. There is no burn in - it does not have a setting for the time updating when the clocks change so it needs its clock updating twice a year, it was "clean" the last time I changed it. It is a LG.
