They are actually having a World Cup Football Day here, everyone comes in their national team colours or tops and they hope to watch.

We've been asked to setup a projector in one of our halls for the England vs Iran match, but I think this is just over a lunch time. Normally, we get an all-staff email saying teachers shouldn't have the football on, mainly as it stops learning time.

I'm awaiting direction; Sixth Form want to show it but I know it was discussed at SLT on Thursday evening, sans the Headmaster, but i'm awaiting the outcome.

In the past whatever school i was at or worked at showed the games. If they dont they will just have pupils (and even staff) skipping lessons!

It's a really awkward time for us.

P4 is 12.20 to 13.20

Then lunch until 14.15

Reg 14.15 to 14.35 then P5.

 

 

Think the plan might be no official watching during P4.

 

Put it on in our halls and common rooms during lunch.

 

Tutors to show it during tutor time until end of match then P5 start delayed.

 

We have a 200Mb broadband and potentially 60 venues all wishing to stream - what could possibly go wrong.

(temp. block on 6th form access to YouTube etc might get implemented during the match time)

Our HT has said straight no for streaming games but he said he may reconsider for the later stages of the tournament.

England only play one match in school time regardless of their route through the tournament so for us, it's only a one match decision.

 

All matches from Round of 16 are 3pm or 7pm so they're not going to bother putting them on for 5/10/15 minutes at the end of the lesson before kids go home.

Well as long as you have a TV licence, not really much reason to ban the game if SLT/Teachers want to show it.

Apparently we're showing it in the hall and teachers can also show it in classes. Personally I can't see why education should be disrupted for the afternoon for a single game. Not as if we're doing it for any other teams where students or staff might have come from.

 

Now if your school doesn't have a TV licence then you can't show it but thats a whole different issue.

Students in my old school booked out the theater when the fixtures dates were set. Before I left I showed them how to get the projector and sound system on and turned up

Rolling with it by showing it in certain classes, we'd rather have them in school and off timetable for 90-ish minutes to watch it than taken out of school for the whole day and losing all learning. Edited November 16, 2022 by Oaktech
