I have a mix of Foxit and Adobe. Some stuff insists on bloody adobe for some reason.

I've yet to find anything, a few programs blurt out and go no adobe found do you want to install, you click on no and they go off and open Foxit but not had anything insist on it yet/

I was using Adobe Reader 8.1.2, but now use Adobe Reader 9.0.0 and so far so good. Definitely worth looking at sooner rather than later. Speed hasn't changed at all which is good :)

Surely it's not good if the speed hasn't changed! Acrobat8 is SLOW....

It seems fine for us, what spec are your machines?

its not about the machines specs,, here they are comparing the acrobat versions, and yes, versions 8 and 9 are really slow compared with Version 6, we use most of the time version 6 for staff machines, because whatever PDF is out there right now, it will open with early versions as far back as version 4, so when you open a pdf to read it, you only want to open it inmediatly for reading so you dont need extra bloated features that most will not use.

We have version 6 and version 9 on the same machines and i cannot see any difference in the speed. I only start to notice the slownes on the slower machines.

try and time the difference between acrobat8 vs foxit on any machine. I don't think I should need a gigahertz processor to read a freaking pdf file

No speed problems here, loads up instantly. Adobe Reader 6 was slow!

Using foxit reader. reads pdf's, doesn't bug you for updates. :D

have you come accross any gotchas using Foxit? I downloaded Acrobat 9 to have a play before putting on our images and noted it was quite bloaty - dodn't notice any performance issued though.

The reason I ask about the gotchas is that I used to deploy Quicktime Alternative instead of Quicktime Player as it was a lot lighter, but then we started having probs with some Cubase training DVD's that appeared to be 'hardcoded' to use the path to Quicktime Player so the embedded videoclips in the training DVDs wouldn't play... :(

So I get a little concerned about using 'third party' apps....

Ive had no issues at all with Foxit really since I started 3 years ago with it, a few print niggles but Foxit solved them.

We'll be using Version 9 hopefully from September (once I have received my reply to an application I made for a distribution agreement).

Currently we deploy 8.1.0 as standard, the recent batch of XP SP3 machines we deployed are 8.1.2 but they will change to V9.

I have noticed that V9 also installs an AIR package aswell. Is there a way of ensuring that the MSI does not install this (i.e. just the reader) ?
