Hi folks,

We bought three classrooms worth of all-in-one PCs over the Summer, and subsequent to that we’ve had two topple over in as many months and the screen has smashed. We think these have been accidental topples, in that someone has caught the top of the PC and pulled it over on the bench or floor. The main problem is that the parts are crazy expensive and it’s the same price as buying a new machine.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so what did you do? We’ve considering putting a screw through the base or securing the back and front of the stand with brackets.

Thanks

Used heavy duty velcro in the past.

A member of staff here suggested that. Did you use anything specific? The stand is flush with the desk, so there's no space inside the stand to put Velcro, and I wondered whether adding that would make it more unstable versus velcro sticking power.

This was some time ago but was just some that came on a roll from ESPO at the time. Used in an IT suite (Primary), these were the stands

and they were all in the same place after 8 years of use.

They did sit a little proud, but not that you'd notice. Nothing to loose giving it a try and less destructive than screws.

Dell OptiPlex AIOs (like the 7490) include a 4mm screw hole on the bottom of the stand. I've used this to secure our IT suite AIOs to the desks.

I think it's designed to be used with the Noble Locks NGDAI1K, but it works equally as well with an M4 machine screw through the desk. Much cheaper too! :)

I have screwed monitor stands to desks in just about every computer room that I have built (and that is quite a few).

Countersunk Pozidriv screws with cup washers look the neatest.

Create a drilling jig for the screw holes so that everything looks the same.

Security TORX screws are available if you need a bit more resistance to unauthorised removal.

When re-doing the music suite this summer we used a pair of mirror corner brackets at the front and a single s clip at the back to prevent the iMacs from being 'accidentally' knocked over.
