HPlum78 Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 At least in the latest movie they got Bogey and Bandit right, unlike in the first movie... Back on topic and keeping with military parlance: TITSUP
RetiredBut Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 (edited) I used to fly for the military and I am sorry to be so rude, but that Top Gun movie nonsense about call signs is just - - - well, how to put this in non-military terms - - - it is bovine excrement. In fact, that Top Gun movie is really full of all kinds of total bovine excrement. I seem to remember that some smart gal or fella actually listed all the nonsense in that movie and I think that can be found on the Net. That Top Gun movie has been around for a bit, hasn't it? I get a tad forgetting about when this or that happened, but it seems to me that movie was a fair bit back when released, no? Or has there been some sort of number two made? Anyway, I guess it is an entertainment thing and so the true nature of flight line work and getting those birds in the air and doing your job with the equipment isn't such great entertainment. Quite frankly, there are few times when the actual flying is what could be called fun. It's a job and it is hard work and a whole lot of homework and paperwork. But, yes, once in a bit there can be that moment when something about being a few thousand feet up is neat, but those moments are far and few between the actual work. I still remember the first training flight I had under the hood. Bet nobody wants to put that into a movie. Or trying to pluck two humans off of some sort of a door (we never were sure what that was they were on) that is being raced down a flooded river. Absolutely no fun in that, especially as we were unsuccessful. That is mighty horrible. Nope, they don't make movies about that sort of stuff, do they? Edited June 19, 2022 by RetiredBut

While I am sure you have valid points about the accuracy of the movie, that really isn’t what is being discussed here. Please allow people a moment to enjoy themselves and let this thread stay on topic 3
jthompson Posted June 20, 2022 Author Posted June 20, 2022 Yes, the film has a military plotline that feels like it was lifted from a Mega Drive game, but it's basically a cinematic air display served on a platter of cheese. Rubbery, orange-coloured American cheese.
LeMarchand Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Or has there been some sort of number two made? I always thought the first one was Number 2, but people love it and the sequel is currently raking it in.
