Koldov Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I reckon somebody left the thermometer out next to their cup of tea on the 9th of August 1911... 1
jthompson Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Looking at the user manuals for some of our projector models, +40C appears to be the upper limit for operable environment. Gonna be a fun couple of days. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 If your servers go down due to not wanting to spend £2000 on a proper air con unit then your school needs to take a really good long hard look at itself. This is the 21st century not the 19th! :/ 1
LeMarchand Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 The county council are planning on sending out vehicles to dust some roads with sand to use as a "sponge" to soak up melted bitumen.
BlueSkies Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 How is everyone keeping their servers cool? We have two servers in a cabinet near a classroom and the temperature is rising in the vicinity!
Koldov Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Air-con here... actually that would probably make a good poll...?
CHiLL Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Server room is air conditioned, but the condensor is on the wall which is receiving direct sunlight, so it'll be working overdrive. The edge switches in cabs are very hot to touch. I have no way of checking their temps by the looks of it.
StevieM Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 (edited) I'm currently on my 4th pint of water since 9am! (For me - not the servers!) Edited July 18, 2022 by elsiegee40
Koldov Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Funny... Thread title = Met Office Red Weather Warning [Risk To Life]... Content = Yeah, yeah, but how hot are your servers?! 1
BlueSkies Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I think we are going to shut our servers down - the fans are at full speed and the surrounding area is very warm ... not helped by the amount of heat being kicked out by the servers! No aircon here!
elsiegee40 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Funny... Thread title = Met Office Red Weather Warning [Risk To Life]... Content = Yeah, yeah, but how hot are your servers?! We are all worried about the lives of our servers Anyway they’re sentient. They just know… Well printers do anyway. They definitely know when it’s least convenient for you and promptly throw a wobbly! 1

CHiLL Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I'm currently on my 4th pint of water since 9am! (For me - not the servers!) I don't think I've ever drank as much water in one day as I have today.

HarryMonkey Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Just popped down to my car and the temp on the display screen reads 38. Gonna be warm when I leave at 4 ... black car, black steering wheel.
DrCheese Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Server room is air conditioned Mine is as well (Dual aircon units FTW!) - I may/may not have decamped into it this afternoon!

They definitely know when it’s least convenient for you and promptly throw a wobbly! Yeah, but printers are a funny bunch aren't they... Shhhhh... they don't know it, but they're not really 'in' with the other I.T. stuff..... That stuff knows how to behave and promptly starts working when we walk in the room...

Get one of these (cheaper ones available, but you could get this tomorrow): https://www.amazon.co.uk/Disney-26065-Car-Windscreen-Sunshade-Aluminium/dp/B01G35OTP2 Well, something like it - that now seems to be OOS! Sometimes I'm glad I got rid of our old car... leather seats... scorching in summer (almost to skin melting temps) and freezing in winter! Just had a windscreen replaced due to a chip turning into a 6 inch crack whilst sitting in the car park...
StevieM Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I'm currently on my 4th pint of water since 9am! (For me - not the servers!) Make that 5! Just popped down to my car and the temp on the display screen reads 38. Gonna be warm when I leave at 4 ... black car, black steering wheel. I decided to walk, today, for that very reason. Not so sure that it was a good idea, now. It's only 1.5 miles cross-country, but still... I'll have to make sure I've got pint number 6 (or possibly 7) filled up for the journey.

We have windscreen shades in both our cars. It’s nice to be able to touch the steering wheel when the sun is out!
Slarty66 Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Luckily we've got air con in our office, we haven't left the office today! Server room Air con freezing! It failed once a few years and the temp hit 45, we had to shutdown the server that time! So totally understand the issues people are having with no air con. Amazing how many teachers are trying to book the computer rooms that have air con fitted..... 1
LeMarchand Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 I'll have to make sure I've got pint number 6 (or possibly 7) filled up for the journey. Pint # 7 (or 8) of something else when you get in? 1
StevieM Posted July 18, 2022 Posted July 18, 2022 Pint # 7 (or 8) of something else when you get in? I'm wwwaaaayyyy ahead of you on that one!
