6Foot2 Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 The Met office has issued its first extreme heat (amber) weather warning. It is in effect until Thursday, roughly the same over the four days (although subject to change) Link: UK weather warnings - Met Office
stevejp Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Well, I’m so glad they told us in plenty of time, otherwise we might never have noticed! (warning, post may contain traces of sarcasm…) 1
hardtailstar Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Kent has literally been 30 degrees for the past week and rendered me useless. I wonder what temperature its takes to be 'extreme heat' 1
elsiegee40 Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Kent has literally been 30 degrees for the past week and rendered me useless. I wonder what temperature its takes to be 'extreme heat' I wondered about that. Forecast temperatures in the area shown are no higher than what we have had in the south east. Why didn’t we get a warning? 1
DalekSec Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Picked the wrong weekend to move house! More shattered from the heat than the moving!
elsiegee40 Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 It's a very new thing by the MET office. Yes… it started last month… so why hasn’t there been there an alert for the south east?
elsiegee40 Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Yes… it started last month… so why hasn’t there been there an alert for the south east? I take it back… there was a warning for the south east but it wasn’t as widely publicised 2
localzuk Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Yeah... Summer is definitely here. Bedroom is still bearable, but only just! If it keeps going up and up, my little evaporative cooler is not going to be able to do much more to help.
jmak Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Going through my regime of open all the windows and doors at 6.30, monitoring outside and inside temperature then closing all windows and curtains once the outside temperature matches inside temperature. Careful management got bedroom temperature down to 21° from 25°. OH had a shower in ensuite and left door open; Now it's 27°and 100% humidity. Brilliant.
hardtailstar Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I take it back… there was a warning for the south east but it wasn’t as widely publicised So much so it wasnt in the app! Although I see we have a yellow thunderstorm warning but no cloud in the sky where I am!
6Foot2 Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 So much so it wasnt in the app! Although I see we have a yellow thunderstorm warning but no cloud in the sky where I am! Thunderstorms can be hit-and-miss (highly localised) It could be pouring with rain here, while in the next neighbourhood just down the road they might not even know about it!

6Foot2 Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 Today's weather warning has been updated to include two amber warnings for thunderstorms: It looks lively in/near those areas on the lightning map:
Protec Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 (edited) It's about 29.2c upstairs in the house. The garden shed is about 35c! It's not the just the heat, it's the amount of time it's going on for. This isn't the worst heatwave I've experienced though, in July 2018 the grass went brown. Edited July 20, 2021 by Protec
Norphy Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Had thunder and lightning here about an hour ago, then hailstones. Boiling again now.
Protec Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Yeah, the weather was on about thunderstorms and hail mainly in the south east. We normally get a good thunderstorm after lots of hot weather like we have had for a while.
6Foot2 Posted July 20, 2021 Author Posted July 20, 2021 ... This isn't the worst heatwave I've experienced though, in July 2018 the grass went brown. #SummerOf76! 3
stevejp Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 #SummerOf76! Was just debating whether to post something similar, but decided I’d probably get too much grief from the young whippersnappers about my age… 1

3s-gtech Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 It’s just at my happy heat now, high 20s to low 30s and I’m at my best! Helps that I sleep well wrapped up in a duvet through it too [emoji28]

Helps that I sleep well wrapped up in a duvet through it too [emoji28] Duvet?! That’s been on the bedroom floor for days. Just a sheet (single bed size) draped across the double bed and half the time I haven’t been under that.
Theblacksheep Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 My max operating temperature is 25c, severe degradation in functionality above that.
