Hi, we wouldn't recommend it, as there's no heat outlet thus forcing it through the panel. The only solutions I've seen work as interactive tables had aircon boxes.

I have some Newline RS+ they are not good enough to write on, stay away.

Updating this quote: I've discovered that the touch input refresh rate is half the display refresh rate. as many of my laptops connect at 30hz this makes the input terrible.

I can now force 60hz at a lower resolution or with a PC more capable and the touch is vastly improved.

BenQ just does what it says on the tin.

I've had problems with SMARTs Clevertouches. The IIyamas were ok I guess apart from one that needed unplugging for 5 mins every hour.

Viewsonic seemed to be just as good as the BenQ's if you can get one cheaper than the other.

there's quite a bit of BenQ patented ClassroomCare™ features across our range which we've built over time, much of which is based on UK users feedback such as edugeek :)

Sorry to hijack the thread but I have a related question if that's ok: I have to create a temporary classroom so need a new display. We use Promethean ActivPanels everywhere but this temp classroom needs a screen on wheels that will only be used for a few weeks.

Am I able to get any touchscreen display and use ActivInspire with it? We're fine getting a software license for it if required. Do you need to do anything special to get it ready for use with ActivInspire or is it plug and play?

Thanks.

It should be absolutely fine on any interactive touchscreen, it'll be plug and play as long as the touchscreen is recognised by Windows!

We are currently looking at making the move from Smartboards to touch screen TVs. We have recently installed a 75" Iiyama as a tester. Teachers seem to like it and nearly all of them want one now, it does look and sound great. However, we also installed a 75" Samsung TV recently. At £1,000 cheaper than the Iiyama, we feel teachers need to make a strong case for needing a touch screen. We can prove that well over half the Smartboards we have are not currently used interactively. Also we need to consider that many tablet devices these days can cast to the screens, so teachers can just write on the tablet.

The price difference is probably more to do with the standard of the equipment.

An Iiyama 75" touch display is a professional grade piece of equipment, with warranties that include commercial use. It is not a TV, per se.

If the Samsung TV is, as you say, an actual TV then the warranty standards and build quality will be reflected in the price. (Most likely going to be a domestic level warranty that isn't worth anything in a commercial setting)

Last time we updated our standard quote list the price difference between 75" interactive and non-interactive displays was approx £400 when warranties etc are taken into account. Sure you're comparing apples with apples?

You're not comparing like to like. The Iiyama is a much higher commerical grade panel designed to be brighter, have a glass front to mitigate damage, have a higher quality build for it's chassis with components that should last longer and be powered up for 12 hours a day. A Samsung panel is built with an expectation of being used for 4 hours a day. Yes, there are cases where a standard domestic TV would work, but not if its used all day, every day... or crucially in schools - turned on at 8:30am and not turned off till the cleaner gets to it 9 hours later.

It's like saying well, I could have this Tesla Series 3 but a milk float is an electric car too.

We replaced projectors with just 75" TVs in 2017 still going strong today. If they need interactive they AirPlay their iPad to the TV and use their Apple Pencil or use the standard whiteboard next to the TV in every room. Most choose to just AirPlay their Mac with a Powerpoint. Even 15 years ago when we had fixed stations and Promethan interactive boards + Projectors they were not used interactively bar occasionally in Maths.

The standard TV's might be designed for 4 hours a day in the home. So that's 4 Hours * 7 Days a week * 52 weeks in a year, so will be running for 1456 Hours a year (Likely more as I think 4 hours average usage a day is low).

Now lets put them in a school for us they would be on for 8 Hours a day (8:30 to 4:30). So 8 Hours * 5 Days a week * 37 weeks a year so 1480 Hours a year. Not really much of a difference.

But lets say a TV does break , a 75" standard TV costs less than half so you could have 2 TV's and change for the cost of an Interactive, possibly even 3 TVs.

I looked at a number of different brands of Interactive screen including ViewSonic, BenQ, Genie & Newline but all had limitations of some sort as I was looking for something that would be as future proof as possible. We ended up going with with CTOUCH "www.ctouch.eu" (not to be confused with Clevertouch) and these screens are absolutely top notch. We ripped the projectors out of every classroom over the Summer and I can honestly say I have never looked back much less hassle than projectors with far more possibilities in regards teaching and learning. All our classrooms have a 75" RIVA and we have a couple of rooms where there was no logical way of mounting so we put in a 65" on a trolley. What makes these screens better then the others is the though that went in to the design. The edges of the screen are magnetic so you can hang the pen and remote (also magnetic) on the screen itself. In terms of the technical specifications most screens still come with fast ethernet ports built in but these are indeed gigabit ethernet ports but even better blow a class away with the built in 80watt yes 80 watt JBL speakers so no need for separate speakers or a sound bar. Quite honestly you could blow a large hall away with the power of these speakers. The WiFi adapter is an optional extra that you screw in to the rear of the screen and I like this as it means the WiFi adapter can theoretically be upgraded after a few years to work with newer WiFi standards as opposed to others that have it built in they are also secured so less likely to be simply pulled out and nicked....

Only downside is the MDM management is poor however all brands seem to use the Radix platform these days as it may well be the only one out there for Android based systems and it is very limited. The Uboard software is good and is updated fairly regularly with OTA updates. The screens come with a subscription to use Mozabook however we are not using this yet.

You are right, I am not comparing like for like. The Iiyama was possibly the cheapest interactive 75" display available. But the Samsung wasn't the cheapest TV. So we could have saved even more.

True enough the Iiyama is an industrial grade device. But a target is a target when a vandal picks it, and if teachers could turn things off we would all save money.

Hi all,

Just looking to upgrade 3 classrooms with 75" interactive touch screens.

Whats the latest brands and models that a good these days?

Don't you need to get some demo models in for your teachers to try out and decide?

We did this and ended up with Viewsonic after they also trialled Smart and CleverTouch.

Can the viewsonics do wireless transmission from the laptop? Any idea what model numbers?

As a long time supporter of Edugeek, BenQ can help with advice and demos, remote or actual, I'll ask the education team to PM you some details.
