No more Casio LED projectors

Jealously looking at how trim and tidy that classroom it. I can only assume that the piles of paper, snapped pencils, shattered biros, dust and long-discarded school jumpers are all just out of shot.

 

I'm more impressed by all the matching keyboards. Working in a school where keyboards are basically consumables due to damage, keeping them all the same type is a very difficult task.

I used to worry about that..... I don't anymore.

 

It works at the point of handover, that's all I'm concerned about.

 

They let the kids break it it's a classroom management issue, any issues with that they can take it up with their line manager and we'll pull the logs of who used the room and left the faults unreported and leave them to argue about it.

My last place I could count the damage on one hand. It wasn’t like that when I started. With SLT backing all damage was automatically billed to the department. There was no argument and not negotiation. Harsh but it worked.

 

Every keyboard and mouse in the whole trust were identical.

I think most of them here were Microsoft keyboard 200s, some Viglen and the newer ones Logitech K120.

Thats a shame, we purchased about 50 x Casio xj-a130 8 years ago and we had about a 60% fail rate where the DLP chip would fail and you would get white/black dots on the screen. Casio had been amazing in replacing these projectors free of charge but they are now out of warranty and we are replacing with new Prowise 4k smart TVs.

So I've read through the whole of this thread and find myself in the same situation as others, the existing infrastructure is in-place and doesn't warrant replacing a projector that has never been used interactively with a screen that cost 3x the price.

 

We've got most of the school across onto the Casio LEDs projectors (80 in total) and have been very happy - no issues warranty or other wise and we're 6 years in.

 

I can see the BenQ options on page one - has anyone used them in anger? Theres no mention of their warranty where as Casio were shouting about 5 year warranty.

Hi, All BenQ 4K interactive panels 65" and above, in addition to built in Android and a host of features and Oktopus s/w come with a de-install/re-install 5 year warranty on registration :-)

So has anyone come up with any alternatives? - the Benq and Epsons laser projectors all seem to be short throw. All our current projectors are installed in cages, so would be big pain and expense to remove/move.

Nope and it's a pain in the bum.

 

We're in a similar position as I'm in the middle of reviewing our projectors.

The Epson 3LCD ones are good and the lamps last a long time especially if you put it in eco mode.

Bulbs are cheap too, and I'm sure the first one is under warranty - that might've been a while ago though.

In the new school we're building which is due to open for September 2022 we had proposed 75" Smart Panels in 37 rooms but in the Art and Science labs we'd decided that Casio 4000 ansi lumens projectors would be sufficient. We're now designing in the necessary infrastructure so that these projectors (displaying on to pull down screens over dry wipe boards) could be replaced with 86" panels in due course.

 

I'm now wondering whether we should just not bother with the projectors at all and just install the Smart Panels from day 1.

 

Do others have interactive panels in their Art and Science Labs rather than just standard projectors?

We have around 50 in use that we have been phasing in over the past 5ish years. In that time we have had 1 (!!!) fail and that was repaired under the comprehensive warranty. If anyone can find me a comparable screen that offers the same value and TCO I am all ears. These projectors are simply without equal and in my opinion vastly greater value that panels in most (but not all) scenarios...

Honestly ... just go for the panels. If the money's there I'd go for panels, but with NO android etc built in unless they can guarantee it's going to work and be supported for 5x years

Panels are absolutely the future. Good as the Casios are (were), they're still fundamentally a small white box trying to outpower the sun in terms of light levels.

 

Mind you, 86" panels are going to be crazy expensive...

What about a 60ish inch at the front and then a couple of 40" just over ceiling mounted screens half way to the back of the classroom. I think that'd be much cheaper and at least as easy to see in big classrooms.

A recently built secondary here was built with Clevertouch panels. However, a local college has a dry wipe boards with a pull down screen and Hitachi projectors and it works perfectly. There isn't much need for every classroom to have a touchscreen when in most classrooms the touchscreen wont be used. I have also seen projectors just projecting onto a white wall in other places which also means the image can be huge.

I agree, but the flexibility of being able to room any teacher in to any space and know they have the hardware and software from their normal teaching room is very advantageous.
