No more Casio LED projectors

Heard this from a reputable company today.

As from the end of June 2020 Casio will no longer be supplying the LED projector range in Europe and the UK.

Shame really as that's what I have been replacing projectors with for the last couple of years.

I dont think there is an alternative with led projectors. Most are made for hall setups not classroom environments.

Interesting ... as that's what most of ours are and would have been replaced with a newer model.

 

Damm. Can't find anything online about this at the moment. Can you keep us all informed if you hear anything else?

Inherited some casio's a few years ago and they were poor! Less than 10,000 hours and got dead pixels!

Were these Casio's by any chance the original slimline ones? We had one slimline and it failed, but the other 30 or so we have (non-slimline), have been faultless.

Hi All, Its True Casio pulling out of Projection already started in Europe.

 

With the advent of laser options and Screen becoming more prevalent the market is reducing fast. BenQ has small laser options that may be an option if your looking for low cost of ownership.

This sucks, as we've replaced most of our site with the Casio's now - Still a few left to do but these were our go to option.

 

£500 would get us a long throw projector that we never had any problems with.

We've only just bought our first batch of Casio LED projectors. Back to Epsons I guess, while we figure out a transition to panels.

For a classroom, arguably. For a hall where you need a picture larger than 80”? No, not yet. Screens that size are nowhere near economical enough for that scenario yet.

Nooo, we've been exclusively buying Casio projectors for years. I'll have to research some other good bulbless projectors with a low TCO.

Not for us, there are multiple factors in play. The main one is that all our classrooms are kitted out with the infrastructure for projectors and interactive boards, specifically (older) SMART boards and SMART Notebook. This means that when a projector dies, it's cheaper to replace that, instead of purchasing and mounting a SMART TV, which are by no means cheap.

They are definitely getting much less popular since touch screen panels came out but I know some schools are still purchasing projectors for their existing IWBs. For places like Sixth forms, projectors typically make more sense as the touch functionality wouldn't be used. I've seen colleges simply project onto the wall to create a large image.

Why pay 3x the price for a smaller screen if you don't need touch?

 

Certainly both have their place, but deffo wouldn't say projectors are dead

I had 60 classrooms with 2005 era projectors in that had bulbs dying all over the place with a budget next to zero. For the cost of a single 75ins touchscreen I could replace 4/5 of those classrooms and benefit 150 kids rather than just 30. So no, in bigger schools projectors aren't dead.

Just because something isn’t cheaper doesn’t make it right. You ha e to consider other factors. Just a few: functionality, cost of electricity to run devices, the useable life, warranty, reliability, ease of use, IT support man hours in servicing etc. H&S is a factor as well. Having a light shined in your eyes from a projector can’t be good for you.

 

I can’t remember the exact cost but I think I was lying £1,200 for a 65 inch (for small primary school classrooms. This included removing all the old equipment and installing the new. All came with 7 year warranty.

 

The secondaries had 75”. I can’t remember the price off top of my head though. I can check and get back though.

 

Yes the hall is a different situation.

I'm not sure how flat screens work in regards to size, until there are cheap 120" LCD displays I can't see me putting them in classrooms anytime soon. I like the idea of Jamboards etc. but the expense is far too prohibitive. Don't get me wrong I can't wait to ditch projectors but they are cheap (almost a consumable).

New secondary school builds seem to using the touch screens as standard. In my last schools it made more sense to keep buying lamps for the existing projectors. I'd say less than 20% of classrooms even used the IWB pen so installing touch screens would be a bit of a waste for the majority of rooms that will never use the touch screen. One thing that I didn't like about the touch screens is that their built in speakers sound terrible! The old IWBs had a pair of Vision speakers and they filled the room easily and sounded great. The ones included on the Promethean ones sound really bad.

I love a touchscreen and install them where I can, but it costs 3x the price to fit one as it does a projector, and with 70-odd classrooms you're talking a £100k project to replace them all, when honestly a projector is fine for the majority. The Casios were bright enough and low maintenance enough (and with later models, cheap enough--the Core was only £400 and never cost you owt more than that) that you could throw them up all over. We rarely use touch, so the only places I need a touchscreen are where I can't install a projector on a pole and a UST projector isn't powerful enough (they're never powerful enough).

 

I had confirmation from my usual supplier on this a month or so back, abd I know they wouldn't bullshit me, so it is true. Which is annoying, because they've all I've installed since the A series first came out. Every standard projector in our school is a Casio of one stripe or another, and while they've not been flawless (had about 5-10 starfield repairs over the last decade), they've been a damn sight less trouble than a normal projector. Mighty grieved to see them go, given that there's no obvious replacement.
