Although I haven't seen any our LA went only with Chromebooks

Strangely given their love of all things Microsoft, Newcastle City Council also went with Chromebooks.

Help and a warning!

We received our 82 iPads on Monday. Very swift! That's where the good news ends really...

The sleeves are TERRIBLE. They are 11" laptop floppy ones, not suitable for an iPad in any way. No option for a case.

Also, they won't appear in our Apple School Manager until we add Computacenter as a reseller in there. I can't find a number anywhere to do that. I emailed on Monday (no reply yet, this is Friday) and I also rang Computacenter direct, to be told the only way of finding out is via the dfe email.

Maybe one of you knows their apple reseller details please? Although they aren't an Apple Education partner so why would you use them normally....

At least they are more useful to us than the laptops from before summer. Or will be eventually!

Get configurator out and start enrolling manually, if you didnt do this at the start of the order you missed the boat IMO, this is a known part of the DEP proccess and you will spend more time chasing them up now than it will take to enrol manually.

that said, just call computacentre and ask for their dep code

At the start of the order? How? The Website doesn't give you an option for that, they have MY ASM details, that was on the order, they just don't provide theirs anywhere?

Anyone knows the phone number to call Computacenter? I am in need of admin credential for laptop. Emailed several times. They asked the S/N of the device, confirmed that they will provide and after that no reply.

Thanks in advance.

Presumably these latest laptops belong to the school not the student, and we can take them back once the child has stopped self-isolating - yes?

Yes, I believe that's the situation.

Has anyone had a child break a laptop screen yet? Am wondering what's the repair procedure? A child has brought a Lenovo laptop back to school and said it's not working turned it on yesterday and it's got a big crack in the screen.

Yes our children our now out of isolation and we requested the laptops back.

To my surprise they were actually well looked after!

Can we request these laptops now or do we have to wait until we have a disadvantaged child is self-isolating? If I do have to wait and since "disadvantaged" doesn't seem to have been defined, can I request a laptop as soon as any student is self-isolating then keep it on hand ready for when (not if) a disadvantaged student needs one?

Unless it's special circumstances you wait to be invited to order, the trigger is linked to the information your school will be submitting to the DfE daily before noon (Educational Setting Status Form).

So when Public Health England tell a particular student(s) or their household to self-isolate, we tell the DfE then go on this website and request a laptop. We then receive the laptop a day later, give it to the child, collect it back from them 2 weeks later and keep it for the next child who needs. Have I got that right?

No, for us it was the number of students we had to have self isolate - this then triggered a batch of over 200 becoming available which we ordered and received.

As groups self isolate we issue them a device and then when they return it gets sanitised ready for the next self isolating group.

We just ordered the full allocation of devices when they became available.

That's my question - how do they become available? This area isn't under local lockdown and I don't think it will be as we're in the South East very close to London (too cynical?!), but we do have individual students who are self-isolating, and have also had confirmed Covid cases within the school which resulted in Public Health England telling certain students to self-isolate (all those students are now back in school).

We're in Tier 2 (but were already more locked down) and had had a full year group (270) plus others sent home. I received an email saying there was devices available so I logged on and ordered them all.

Our bubbles have remained intact so far, but we did have around 40 students from one year group told to self isolate. I didn't get an email then, but that was probably before this latest scheme was announced / before I clicked on the link in the email. Guess I just need to wait until either a year group is sent home or a disadvantaged child has to self-isolate.

Make sure your schools named person (probably the head) is filling in the Form the DFE are asking them to complete daily.

THen email the covid support address [email protected] , stating your ciscumstances, the schools name and dfe number and how many devices you require.

Thats what weve done, ive not had any automatically become avaiable yet - but ordered 4 schools devices

Can anyone give guidance...

A child-in-care year 11 student who left last summer and is now at a local college had one assigned to them last Spring. Obviously it came back for summer and they have not left.

We now have the Virtual School asking for the laptop to be re-assigned to him at his college.

My thinking is that the Virtual School think he has a laptop assigned to him as he is in care and the covid laptops were never for this?
