Bank Holiday weekend! - What is everyone up to?

Ah we figure if you live in a house but don't decorate the way you want because one day you might want to sell, then you're not really getting any pleasure from it there and then.

Can't see a point in not having your house decorated in a way that makes you happy. We have bright colours everywhere, art painted directly onto walls in a couple of rooms.

Black gloss on the skirts, door frames and stairs is gonna be the least of our problems if we went to sell.

 

We need more of this attitude in the world. In the absolute worst case scenario, you can paint over it (or hire someone to do so) if the cost is outweighed by any increase in property value.

 

In any case, most people who buy a house will redecorate a large proportion of it anyway (funnily enough even one person's "bland" taste may not line up with another's!). This then raises another question - why so many people view houses and go "ew don't like the wall colours in room X, not buying" when that's probably a £200 fix if you DIY, perhaps £1k if you hire a painter.

 

Artex everywhere? Avocado bathroom suite? Do tell.

If you like it - go for it. That said as someone who's recently had to remove it, Artex can go directly to Hell. Do not pass Go, do not collect 200 satanic dollars.

 

 

Anyway, to avoid any unplanned amphibian transformations: my bank holiday plans include putting up two new light sconces (and probably finding wiring horrors behind the old ones) and planning plants for the un-planned half of the garden.

 

My first idea of "greenhouse full of carnivorous plants" unfortunately was rejected by the Horticultural Scrutiny Committee (namely, my partner).

So our living room is a mixture of lilac and bright purples with a feature wall that is a Star Wars comic all 5 meters of it.

There are holes in all the walls as we have hundreds of framed pictures. There's also a proper pole for pole dancing fitness fitted right in the middle of the room which would probably put a few people off.

 

In my daughter's room we've painted a HUGE rainbow in textured paint with clouds and unicorns across one whole wall.

 

The rest of the house is similar

 

Edit: except the bathroom which is boring, white (for now) and fully tiled.

I went to view a house once with BRIGHT orange carpet and a vivid purple walls - if you are after any ideas

 

 

 

That was the main bedroom - the rest was on the theme of Magnolia - so it was a bit of a shock!!!

Stuff round the house. Definitely want to put up a stair gate as the cat is getting a bit infirm and has had a couple of tumbles, and create end caps for the second composter that we picked up at the dump a few months back. (Sun-Mar 400 that had the two end caps missing).

 

Had to spend a lot of time as a cushion for the cat, who was very unsteady on her feet earlier. Managed the composter: hot glue, gaffer tape, some paperclips and a jar lid one end, and much the same with an old bucket style bin inner the other. May even be able to use that end to turn the compost into!

 

Wish I hadn't wasted so much time trying to push the top of the bucket down onto the bottom, including cutting down through the plastic to increase flexibility, when I could've just dropped the bottom through the top - as I inadvertently found out.

Totally unplanned to what I wanted to do but still connected, stripped 3 window sills and door step of the old pain using a disposable knife thing that made the job peeling the paint off far quicker than a scraper so quite happy. Just got to finish tomorrow and might get a couple of coats of paint on.

Done lots of gardening today (well, yesterday now), mainly weeding and planting. Then had a BBQ which was mostly sausages and burgers as I'm not willing to be visiting one of the larger supermarkets just to get special BBQ foods.

After that I took daughter on a bat walk (daily excersise) around the local park at twilight. Loads of noctuel bats out which was great to see. It was very warm too and going out in just shorts and a t-shirt was lovely, especially as there was no wind, the place was deserted and it was so quiet.

Ordered a shed and ordering a skip on tuesday. Going to try and make the most of the weather and being at home to get the garden and garage sorted as much as possible. Annoying that i can't buy any turf (though i've not looked to see if i can get that delivered yet)

 

EDIT ohhh found somewhere to get turf, i could actually get my garden done over the course of the next month. Moved in to this house nearly 2 years ago, in that time we've essentially done a complete renovation of the smoke stricken cess pit it was.

Luckily mine has been exterior, interior I'm banished from my doing, my Dad insists he comes and does any when it needs doing so I am not going to argue with that!

 

Do need to invest in some more pain for outside, got a door step to do but needs more more hard wearing paint for that.
