Yep, keep trying, it's a continually changing situation. There is contradictory news stories whizzing around - only yesterday it was reported to expect an increase in vaccination rates due to a shipment from India. A levelling off of first vaccine rates is to be expected as the 12 week period for dose two is imminent in another 2 -3 weeks due to the rapid increase in first dose rates 9 to 10 weeks ago. The added challenge with those, is needing a matched vaccine. The rollout has been excellent to date, so I have my fingers crossed it continues as we move to higher 2nd dose rates.

Seems like the ball is starting to roll with our org and how what the 'new normal' will look like with working structure; I've loved WFH and would quite happily just stay as it is, but I suspect I'll be in the office for a day, maybe two, or hotdesking...

In a previous job at various times I went through:

 

30 minute commute each way, 5 days per week

1.5 hours each way, 5 days per week

2 days per week office (distance varying between 30 minutes drive, 1 hour train or up to 4 hours driving - any further and I stayed overnight)

5 days per week working at home

 

My favourite by far was 2 days per week in the office; easy to arrange my life around, no commuting most days, productive time undisturbed, enough human contact to keep me sane. After 18 months of barely seeing anyone due to 5 days per week working at home I was ready to take any job that involved working with people.

First jab tomorrow. As soon as I hit 55 last week my Doctors surgery and NHS text me and I received a letter from the NHS.

I have a fair amount of sympathy with the idea of prioritising teachers for vaccines, but no more than other school staff who come in to contact with pupils. There's also some evidence showing that more of the spread in schools was between staff than from pupils to staff. Also, while I ideally no one would catch Covid, the reason you've been offered it first is because statistically you're more likely to come to harm if you get it. A 45 year old teacher (never mind all those in their twenties) is at lower risk of a bad outcome than you are.

 

There's no perfect way of deciding what order to administer vaccines, but over all we'll all be better off if everyone who's offered one takes it up.

Seeing the news pieces about Boris Johnson and Jo Whiley’s sister getting the vaccine today, I’m wondering, why does someone who’s already had the virus need the vaccine? Surely they’ve already got antibodies and having the vaccine won’t have much benefit for them?

 

Not saying they shouldn’t have it, just wondering if there’s any benefit?

Not a daft question at all and an interesting topic. In truth, I don't really know why, however I have heard two things, one if which has proved to be true for a friend. Firstly, if you have had the virus, you are more likely to have more severe post vaccine symptoms with Pfizer. Secondly, I believe the medical view is the vaccine gives longer term protection than having the virus. But, in truth I doubt we'll all know fully until quite a lot more time has passed.

Not a stupid question, but according to the scientists behind the ZOE app, they don’t know all the answers yet.

 

Having the vaccine once won’t do any harm... it’s like having the second vaccine dose.

 

Having the vaccine twice won’t do any harm either. What they’re investigating is whether you actually need the second dose if you have had already had the disease.

It's thought to give stronger and longer lasting protection and possibly is more effective against variants other than the one you had.

 

I know 2 people who had covid-19 twice (confirmed with pcr test both times - they're both frontline healthcare workers who were exposed a lot). They've both also now had two doses of the vaccine.

Good to see another country doing well with their vaccine roll-out - Chile. In spite of this they have reached a new daily record of cases recently with some hospitals struggling.

Fever with violent shivering here, plus a headache after my first jab yesterday morning, but not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Do feel absolutely exhausted today tho.
