StevieM Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Remember that people who test positive with LFT are no longer required to get a confirmatory PCR, so I would expect that a large proportion of the drop in PCR tests will have come from people who would have tested positive. 1
jmak Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 In theory they're supposed to report positive LFT results, so they should be included [emoji854] 1
Duranis Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 (edited) In theory they're supposed to report positive LFT results, so they should be included [emoji854] If you asked 50 people on the street what the process is now how many of them do you think would know more than "well I don't need to do a PCR anymore"? Considering deaths and hospital admissions have continued to rise and the drop in number of "confirmed positives" is such a close match to the drop in "tests done"... and started at the same time that the testing changes were made, I'm highly sceptical that this "sudden drop in cases" has any basis in reality. mavhc Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 What percentage of people were able to report their positive LFT test though? It's not the simplest thing, and we know that normal people can't use computers
LeMarchand Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 What percentage of people were able to report their positive LFT test though? It's not the simplest thing, and we know that normal people can't use computers I'll own up to not reporting my first, as it was negative so I figured there was no need to report. Have reported subsequent ones though!

Have reported subsequent ones though! I've got to be honest and say that I've never reported any of my LFT results (all negative). EDIT: All negative...so far! (Tempting fate a little too much, there!) Edited January 14, 2022 by StevieM
Koldov Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Wouldn't there have also been a massive surge in reporting over the holidays as people were advised to take LFT before mixing (and we know people are doing as they are asked)? This in turn led to the shortage of test kits available... This will have obviously dropped off dramatically now.
Ditto Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 It's now been explained to me as to how the confusion for Novak occurred. He read "No one allowed in to Australia without a vaccine". He read "No one" as his tennis ranking - i.e. Number one! 2
Duranis Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Wouldn't there have also been a massive surge in reporting over the holidays as people were advised to take LFT before mixing (and we know people are doing as they are asked)? From the graph I'm looking at coronavirus.data.gov.uk there definitely does not appear to have been any kind of surge over the holiday period, in fact there is a drop over Christmas. In fact the number of tests done has risen proportionality to the number of positive cases reported. As would be expected, more people are getting ill, more people are taking a PCR, more positive tests confirmed. The number of tests done (and number of positive cases reported) has only started dropping at the same time as the changes to testing requirements have been made. Also side note. Are we really supposed to be reporting negative LFT's?!? The guidance we had been given was that it only needs to be reported if positive.
asteer Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 I have been reporting negative LFT's as I have needed them for medical appoitments to prove that I dont have covid. A negative LFT can count as your covid passport if you need to go to an event etc
enbiggen Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Also side note. Are we really supposed to be reporting negative LFT's?!? The guidance we had been given was that it only needs to be reported if positive. I think not reporting it affects some of the funding schools get related to doing the tests, or at least that was what we were told. (I report them anyway, as I imagine it will help the government make statistical decisions.)

So, either basically people were actually not doing as they were asked, or nobody went to visit anybody else over the holiday period... A negative LFT can count as your covid passport if you need to go to an event etc How is that actually possible? Can you not produce a negative LFT by just not swabbing? Or this... https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210705-how-children-are-spoofing-covid-19-tests-with-soft-drinks
Duranis Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 So, either basically people were actually not doing as they were asked.. NO!!!!! Surely not!!!! 1

From this date, to enter those venues and events, people aged 18 or above must either: be fully vaccinated with 2 doses of an approved vaccine (or one of the single-dose Janssen vaccine) have completed a negative PCR test or negative rapid lateral flow test within the past 48 hours, or be exempt https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prove-your-coronavirus-covid-19-status-to-work-at-venues-or-events-operating-covid-19-status-checks

Or this... https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210705-how-children-are-spoofing-covid-19-tests-with-soft-drinks The tests work by containing antibodies, the test line has covid antibodies, and the control line is looking for stuff which is normally in your nose/throat. The reaction triggers a second reaction which causes the colour change. The reason these tests react to food and drink (and the reason you shouldn't eat or drink before taking one) is that they are sensitive to ph changes, it's also the reason they provide a buffer solution instead of just using tap water.

mavhc Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 So you're saying that if you don't follow the instructions the results will be invalid? Nobel Prize on its way. 3
StevieM Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 So you're saying that if you don't follow the instructions the results will be invalid? Nobel Prize on its way. What I think they are saying is that if you don't follow the instructions the results will be invalid, but you can still use them to report a negative result and get your passport to spread Covid.
jthompson Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Hopefully the proportion of people prepared to lie into a government website is so vanishingly small that the honesty box model will function well enough, most of the time.

BOOT Posted January 14, 2022 Posted January 14, 2022 Have you tried reporting a negative result lately... the process is ridiculous.
