Would normally take 11 minutes Due to an accident and various road closures, took me 1 HOUR!!! Most of which was spent crawling one way, around a roundabout and back the other way..Yay! Second annoying thing: EU closing borders would definitely mean we would get a refund on our holiday. BUT they have exempted UK citizens
sonofsanta Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 (edited) After a few weeks of taking a Shaun of the Dead approach to the whole thing--let's go for a nice pint and wait for it all to blow over--the flurry of announcements and actions by European governments has finally gotten me worried. France and Germany's actions more than anything, tbh--they're level headed, sensible places at the moment, and their reaction is pretty extreme. 19yo at home has got Crohn's and is on immunosuppresant medication, so falls into the "adults who get the flu vaccine" category. I can get a lot of my work done via remote access. Emailed the Head to ask if I can work from home after today. ETA: Head says yes Edited March 17, 2020 by sonofsanta

I mean, its a fair criticism, but we have 840 ish devices, and 25 periods a week, and they're all used in mostly all lessons. So that's 21,000 antibac wipes a week. 84,000 a month. We can get hold of 12,000 at best.

Leadership was shown by Macron by going into a war setting. We don't seem to understand the position we're in. 1

We have teaching staff sorted with iPads and google meet/classroom but our main issue is support staff. We will ask them to use their own machines if possible but for any that refuse or don't have their own machine we will issue a school laptop. Can we ask staff to use their own machines? We've found that Windows 10 Home doesn't have the Remote Desktop client which will be a problem. Does anyone have a way round this?

A keyboard will survive a squirt of antibac quite happily, after all. Get round a couple of times a day is all you could hope to do, though.

I think--from a quick Google, and because I'm sure my PC at home is just Win10 Home, though I can't check right now--that Win10 Home PCs can RDP out, you just can't RDP in. If you can get them on a VPN, they can still open an mstsc session to their work PC.

My travel ins company sent email saying anything booked before 13 match is covered, anything booked after 13 march is uninsured. 1

Only essential staff in (first time I've been seen as essential). Total confusion! Been pushing Teams for a while to absolute no interest. Now its the 'Garlic Bread' of teaching and school communications. The analogise such as p**s up in a brewery etc don't describe the total shower of droppings that this is here. So I've asked HR for advice as to what I should do moving forward. I can work from home (I'm the G Suite Coordinator, it'd be amazing if I couldn't) so lets see what they say. Absolutely crapping my pants at the idea that I'm going to give them this virus.

Got it all set up last night and asked her to check that she could access everything necessary. More than once. She's taking her laptop to work today because she didn't see how to get to . Why are we not offering the older students to stay home alone if the parents allow it? As for grandparents, the automatic assumption that we all rely on them...... Our cover is stretched and we are no longer pushing high quality lessons. In fact plans are being put in to place for simple lessons and even having students in large areas like the hall. Shouldn't go to the pub and expose my self to 20 people but can go to a school and expose my self to 1600 kids and 200 staff. Political logic 101. 1

Tell 'em you're self-isolating! Forgot this one for me: Mme LeMarchand has suggested that if Bonus Daughter #1 contracts the virus, she should come to stay with us. BD1 is older that many of the members here and has a toddler and a fiancé, as well as her own house.

Our 6th form has a lot of students not turning up. A lot of them being internationals and going back to their home country in case UK goes into lock down.

School I was at yesterday had some degree of "self isolated" kids. Strangely enough, mainly from the families who wouldn't bother to bring their kids into school if they didn't have to.

I don't have attendance figures, as I don't have anything to do with the MIS side of things, but SLT have emailed all staff. Parents are voting with their feet, like I expected. They're not willing to risk their children and families.
