Suggestions for 14inch laptop with SSD

I would like to buy a 14inch Laptop with SSD and my budget is £250 inc Vat and want it to be lightweight between 1.3 and 1.4Kg

battery life 10-15 hours.

 

Please post me links for suitable laptop if yiu are aware.

Operating system? You’re right on the bottom edge of Windows machines there without going for refurb - I think a Chromebook may be the only thing that hits your requirements.

For that amount you are very limited, Refurb or Chromebooks! And doubt any of them will be lightweight and have decent specs. It will be one or the other. Lots of powerful Lenovo refurbs that are cheap but weight the same as a small caravan

Look at ASUS laptops from John Lewis , I have just bought one for £270

Do you know any particular Asus model that is in John Lewis.

I would give ICT Direct a call and see what they suggest, as with that price range, to get something with decent performance, it may well be best to go for a refurb.

Have you thought about looking at refurbs? We purchased quite a few ex-business HP EliteBook 2570p laptops a couple of years ago and they were second hand then. i5 processors, 8GB RAM, 120GB SSDs and extended life batteries (which have actually degraded quite badly and don't last too long, though replacements are still available)...but for £165 a piece, they're still going very strong and extremely responsive, especially given that they are 2012 models! For that kind of money you're going to get older hardware that won't really stay reliable or responsive for much longer. Older i3's, tiny SSD's and the bare minimum of RAM.

 

You're much better off going with a certified refurb and getting the spec pushed up a bit.

I think the only devices you'd be looking at brand new for that kind of money would be the Microsoft Education range, formerly Microsoft Hero devices. These are Chromebook spec'd, but loaded with Windows.

I'd be reluctant to buy a Celeron though, and expect it to do full domain functionality. Anyone else have any experience with these devices?
