ID Card printers - how long do they last you?

How long do you all expect an ID card printer to last between replacing it? As things get worn etc...

Ours is still working about 12 years since purchase... had to bodge the install for windows 10 as it doesn't have drivers as it went EoL about 5 years ago....

I suppose I should also ask - how many cards a year you guys print? Last year I did around 600. This year, I'll likely hit 900.

We do between 600-700 cards every year as we mainly use it for bus passes

I think our card reader was manufactured in around 2008 and was supplied with our door system in about 2010. It certainly pre-dates me, I've been here for about 5 years. We'll do maybe about 50 cards a year.

Pretty much 4 years old to the day.

 

Maybe 1800 cards over that time.

We print about 1800 a year, between two Evolis Primacy printers. (One with mono ribbon, one with colour)

 

First one is three years old, second one is two years old.

I think we had to run a cleaning kit through it a couple of times - but other than that it has been fine.

I think i've tempted fate.

 

One of them isn't seeing any ribbon, the second is misaligning the card coming out of the duplex module so it hits the innards of the printer instead of feeding into the next part of its journey.

Depends on:

 

* usage

* print quality

* colour or mono

* single or double-sided

* How often it's maintained.

 

We had one last about 5-6x years before it started playing up. We had a single-sided printer that we used to flip over the cards to print on the back, not really ideal which likely contributed to more wear and tear over time.

I think ours is about 4 years old. It did have a fit a couple of weeks ago and kept jamming cards but bought a cleaning kit for it ran that through and it's working again now!

Our IDP SMART 50S has packed in, and requires a replacement.

 

Any suggestions / recommended suppliers? Was wondering if IDP Smart 31 would suffice, as IDP Smart 51 is big jump in price etc.

We are looking for the Smart 30, but looks like it's now been replaced with the 31 (explains why DigitalID were out of stock a fortnight ago)

We have the Smart-30 and it's worked well for us for over 2 years. I imagine the 31 will likewise serve well.

Still going to be better than our 12 year old Sunlight K3 that we can't get ribbons for now.
