Anyone had a kerb dropped?

Has anyone ever had the council drop a kerb for them? Was it an easy process or not? Am just buying a property at the moment and just wondering as there is a manhole cover on the path and just looking at the gap between the telephone pole and street lamp.

Had mine done not long after I moved in five years ago (already had a gravel front garden but no dropped kerb). The council sent me a list of approved contractors, I contacted several to get quotes and it only took a week or two. Pretty straightforward in the end.

Council here do the work, our landlord picked up the bill for it luckily (they converted the front garden to a driveway just prior to us moving in), you just apply here, you can optionally pay for the painting of white lines on the road.

Would also be interested to know approximate cost, council site just has the fees for applying but not how much if you get them to do the actual work. Don't want to make an application to find out as I can't afford to build a drive for a few years anyway.

My neighbour had his done earlier in the year and it cost them somewhere in the region of £1000, up from £700 when they initially looked when they bought the house a few years ago.

 

Some councils will do it themselves, others let you pick an approved contractor. What they have been sneaky with around here recently is when renewing roads/path ways if people have had a drive way but no dropped kerb they put them one in free of charge! Obviously got a few peoples backs up, including my neighbours. They as part of the works also replaced mine rather than just extend next doors the whole lot had to be done.

Ouir neighbours just had theirs done at £900. I was thinking about it, but at that price it's not worth it in my opinion.

Son's council charges £600 and that is only if nothing is in the way or has to be moved

Apparently, my council charge £few hundred to even LOOK at the job. Neighbors enquired rather than me so I don't have exact figures.

Had mine done when they did the pavement and got a reduced rate
