AnyDVD or DVDFab Passkey Lite will tell you which type of copy protection the DVD uses.

 

It's probably Sony's ARccOS (or similar).

It should play but it doesn't on many DVD players including those on PC/Laptop it would appear.

I had the same problem, it wasn't playing ball at all. I used Handbreak to rip the DVD in order to get it to play. I did use freemake however that just spat out the same 25 minute clip about 100+ times

I had problems with the supplied Power Points, it turned out that the embedded video's were .mov files. So I just exported them and re-encoded them as WMV and slapped them back in the PPT for the staff to use, problem solved.

Playing the 'They Shall Not Grow Old' DVD on Windows 10.

As Windows 10 doesn't have a DVD player software installed as standard, it is recommended that the following software is used to play the disc.

The download includes a free 30-day trial.

The DVD will not play on VLC Player, due to its copy protection.

For earlier versions of Windows, its recommended that Windows Media Player is used. The DVD will play in standalone DVD and Blu-ray players as normal.

Funny really as the copyright protection was put there to stop people ripping it but it has stopped us being able to use it unless you rip it. So it has had the reverse effect.

They have forwarded my email to the learning team in the meantime they say "Registered teachers on Tes.com will be able to view the film online until Christmas 2018 via the following link: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/first-world-war/"

if you wanted a local copy you could either see if you can download from the tes site or use something such as OBS to screen capture the video and then save a copy that way. (not the most legit thing i know but it could mean you dont have to jump through hoops later on to view it)

If your a ClickView Subscriber - I've uploaded the version I grabbed from BBC2 onto Exchange so you can add to your libraries and link too forever more. That's more legal that doing a Rip (which worked on a Mac with Handbrake - but I'm not saying I did that! )
