UK Heatwave 2018

It hit 34 in Tonbridge yesterday. Luckily I was in Salisbury which was a more comfortable 29C. Today, I intend to do what I need to do very early and then as little as possible

I have been looking forward to a good storm or two all week. The latest forecasts suggest that the storms will miss my area completely.

 

 

We have had storms forecast at least one day each week since this heatwave started. Only seen one bit and that only lasted for an hour about 6 weeks ago.

There is water on the roof of my car - we have had rain. Obviously not significant as everything else is bone dry.

Looking at the dust pattern on the windscreen of my car it appears as though we may have had a shower during the night, all other evidence is non existent.

Massive thunderstorm here but it was only for about an hour it's gone back to being insanly hot. I don't like it.

Its odd, being in the North East I'm used to spending 11.5 months of the year trying to stay warm, now can't sleep because its too muggy! We've had a brief thunderstorm today but only 30 minutes or so and the rain wasn't that heavy.

I've just checked the weather for Gloucester for Sunday when I'm due to play in a golf competition!

No sign of thunderstorms here in East Anglia. Given how uncomfortable last night with the temperature and humidity, I think they're probably long overdue. Forecast is showing them appearing tonight, but then they said that about last night too.

Might get a thunderstorm up here in Cheshire this evening, we may not. If we do (and if I remember) I'll post here to gloat.

(Because getting rain in the North West is unusual... according to 2018. /s)

Pretty sure someone was using the train as a foundry last night. With the assistance of Govia being incompetent, I am pretty sure that the heating was still on last night - well hot air was coming out of the heaters, but that could just be re circled air after the train just waited in the tunnels just outside Highbury and Islington.

 

Who knows, by next summer, those new trains they have been promising us for 2 years might eventually be here...*

 

*Call me pessimistic, I'm not going to hold my breath.

We only have the sound of (very) distant thunder. Very overcast.

 

Edit: Rain getting heavier now. No thunder/lighting locally.

I checked the met office web site this morning and it was saying there might be light rain this evening

 

now it is saying we ae due for a thunderstorm with a far greater likelihood

 

it seems to be changed minute by minute - the weather forecasters must be going mad trying to get it right at the moment

looking at the weather radar it looks like there has been a load of lightening around the Cambridge/Norwich area and up to the Wash

 

I assume it has been raining like mad as well

Daughter says it had been raining for about an hour in Southampton. Son has rain just started in Elstree, Herts

Come 6pm in Northern Lincolnshire its rained and got a storm. Still raining now which is nice, lots of lightening, caused some problems north of me, a few trees down, bit of flooding in places. Cooled it right down and doing my garden good!

Two minutes of minor precipitation (I can't really call it rain) a couple of hours ago. Despite there being no sun, it's already dried up. Hopefully we'll get some tomorrow.

If you watched the weather after the late news on the BBC last night you would think we got rain and storms last night in west Kent. The reality was a storm that passed just west of here which we heard, a two minute shower and then more storms that may have got to @hardtailstar in the east of the county, but again missed us.

 

It is, however, much fresher this morning. I am off to a wedding in the Midlands today and praying that the rain stays away as it would be most unfair on the bride and groom to have a damp ceremony after this heatwave!
