6Foot2 Posted July 28, 2018 Author Posted July 28, 2018 We have had several bursts of quite heavy rain this morning lasting no more than 2 or 3 minutes each. Feeling a bit cheated for having no storm after this prolonged period of hot weather.
hardtailstar Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 If you watched the weather after the late news on the BBC last night you would think we got rain and storms last night in west Kent. The reality was a storm that passed just west of here which we heard, a two minute shower and then more storms that may have got to @hardtailstar in the east of the county, but again missed us. It is, however, much fresher this morning. I am off to a wedding in the Midlands today and praying that the rain stays away as it would be most unfair on the bride and groom to have a damp ceremony after this heatwave!Yep we had the storm. Went swimming in the local pool as usual last night and could see the rain and lightning having fun outside. It started around half 7 and was finished by 9 but started raining around 10 for half an hour. No rain so far this morning. Bit breezy and the sun is out. 1

jdoldridge Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 We had a pretty bad storm last night. I've never seen/heard thunder and lightning like it. It's still raining now but it's cooled down to a lot more manageable temperature now.

To get back on topic, we appear to have had some more sustained (and therefore hopefully useful) rainfall in the Midlands this afternoon. Many Birmingham League cricket matches seem to have been abandoned - and, for once, I don't think anyone minded too much!

However whilst doing that from above, noticed that my lean-to/gazebo roof has melted/burned in parts Can't see why on earth it should have happened, even with the heat it's well within specs. Testing Wickes' 10 year warranty on this! Thought it was just some discoloration to start with, but then seeing places where it's actually melted properly, it's certainly heat damage

Dos_Box Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Has been raining all day in Preston (and badly needed it is too). Just come back from a walk at Lytham and the estuary is at low tide. Never seen the Ribble so low there. It's like a trickle with the lack of water upriver.

Looks like the warm weather will be returning: For many of us this period will begin dry and fine, however some showers are possible particuarly in central and northern areas on Friday and perhaps Saturday. There will also be some sunshine, with the most prolonged sunny skies across far southern areas. As we head further into August many areas are expected to be fine and dry with plenty of sunshine, but there will be a chance of one or two showers here and there. At times it will be cloudier in the northwest with a risk of rain, but often it will also be fine here too. Temperatures around normal in the northwest to begin with, but otherwise it is likely to become very warm with a small chance of hot conditions developing again, especially across the south. HTCPCP Posted July 30, 2018 Posted July 30, 2018 Even with all the rain we have had, it's only just done any good the top centimetre or so of the ground. But it was enough for Govia to cancel one train on Friday and delays this weekend due to 'adverse weather conditions'...
