Anyone know how to set student documents to Public in SIMS? I don't know of a setting or routine to do this.

I have a distant, indistinct & possibly unhelpful memory of Assessment>Individual reports having an issue with Office 365 - there were issues of ancient parts of SIMS not being supported - possibly it will come to me in the middle of the night...

Made a hard day near impossible. Should've used a pencil. Product Design GCSE Grade U - no Sixth Form for you, like most of our students.

For anyone not paying attention / losing the will to live...we're nearly up to Consolidated Patch 4(due sometime Friday).[26089 although, confusingly, referred to elsewhere as 26088 - which I think was CP3]. https://support.capitasoftware.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=3b496cf6dbbfd850109770ba68961900 We won't get this deployed before the weekend - so that's another week - you'd think once you've spent forever getting all of those Es and Qs removed you'd be done...

[sims] Searching for every instance of a name within SIMS
BrownShoes replied to BrownShoes's topic in MIS Systems
The PDO isn't much use - we've been asked to search for every doc where the staff name is referenced...think Profiles or AM Reports where this has been tagged. Next stop C*p*t*, as you say they should have the ability to look in the documents. Thanks for the help. -
[sims] Searching for every instance of a name within SIMS

Yes it is. -
Every mention of a member of staff - in any field, mentioned in any text, in any list or drop-down, even within any report or linked document...everything, everywhere... As difficult as I think?

[sims] Exporting Individual Report Comments to Excel or Word
BrownShoes replied to Rebeccaberry's topic in MIS Systems
Rebecca, I'm sure you're aware that you can export the comments for each subject and that you can also preview comments selected for individual students...but don't think you can easily compile a list of subject comments chosen for individual students.. Sorry. -
Although we may be looking for partnerships elsewhere - not all of these providers are necessarily looking for LAs to support their systems. Our expertise is with SIMS - as are most of our customers. The original point was that the new version doesn't impress thus far - which is a concern - although we have supported a less than impressive product for many years now...

For our LA the partnership with Capita is hugely important – for obvious reasons. Without being in a position to actively sell new SIMS, it’s increasingly difficult to remain upbeat about an application still clearly requiring considerable development – particularly when you’re trying to sign up schools essentially to get at their data. Both the schools and the LA are also being actively courted by other providers - and need to engage with those offering viable alternatives without cheesing too many people off. As the years roll by it is increasingly hard to re-assure schools that the something we promised that would solve all of their problems is still actually going to put in an appearance. It’s hilarious to consider that some of these schools were reluctant to train staff on old SIMS or to go ahead with using some modules as they thought it wouldn’t be worth the effort with the imminent arrival of the game-changing version 8. And the answer to the endless questions about whether it will be able to do this or that or other is still…we have no idea.

Our meeting with Capita: Us : OK, SIMS Primary, show us what you got… Capita : What would you like to see in there? Show us your templates. What reports do you want? Give us your data. Have you any suggestions?(get a move on…?). I think that’s possibly in development, I’ll have to check… Did this meeting take place? – A. 2015 B. 2017 C. April If you answered A or B you really should find another forum...

Not just testing - actively providing assistance in it's design. Sorely tempted to ask "is it finished yet?" - upon pain of a blow to the head from one of my superiors.

Most queries met by Capita rep with answers indicating things were either going into development, were actually currently in development or were awaiting development. Some of these questions weren't supposed to be too difficult.

Anyone else thoroughly underwhelmed with SIMS 8 / Primary? Back in 1975, or whenever it was they announced it, this might've been just the thing. The ambition seems to have faded a little - increased staff engagement, more intuitive, much easier to use - hopefully so, but what happened to all the other stuff about it being a 1-stop, everything-you'll-ever-need system? If they're keeping something back - or putting something back(dashboards/reports) - I'd love to see it - and soon, other applications are available...

[sims] Individual Report Template Missing/inaccessible
BrownShoes replied to RootsSchImp's topic in MIS Systems
Too add to the response above - as this happened to us earlier today & 24321 did indeed sort the issue out... KB111517 "Cannot Locate Base Template" or "Cannot Download the Base Template File" KBA-457822-F8Z2L7 Notes Focus | Assessment | Individual Report When accessing the above route, the following error appears: "Cannot locate Base Template" Workaround Please contact your Local Support Unit and request the following Patch (depending on which release of SIMS you are currently on): Patch 24069 if you're on the Summer Release 2018 (7.182) Patch 24321 if you're on the Autumn Release 2018 (7.184) Please note, these are Run Once Patches which means they can only be applied to the SIMS database once. If the error occurs after these have been applied then please follow the steps below to resolve the issue: 1) Open Task Manager on the affected workstation and locate 'WINDWORD.exe'. End this process and then navigate to the route in SIMS again. 2) If the above does not resolve the issue, then please close SIMS.net. Type 'services.msc' into the Windows search bar to open the services. Locate 'SIMS .net Document Server' and restart this. Once it has restarted, please log back into SIMS.net and the issue will be resolved. If you are experiencing the error, then it may be due to incorrect pathing or multiple instances of a DocStorage folder. please see KB68682 for more details. -
I think the closest you could get to that would be to use Position - Data Review using Formula - which is similar to Rank in Excel. Anything more complex is difficult in Assessment - and I can't immediately see a way you could use a series of If Then Else statements to achieve this either. If there is a mathematical equivalent equation, it wouldn't be usable in AM - afraid I don't understand the post in StackExchange referred to above.

Tools>Academic Management>Course Manager>Maintain Course...Panel 5 for Supervisors for academic classes. Otherwise in the Pastoral Structure for Registration Classes(Focus>School>Pastoral Structure). I would think the supervisors should pull through to Show My Homework from Course Manager.

It is often difficult to ascertain whether MyAccount is working properly or not. Even at full steam it's pretty unimpressive.

In our LA SIMS & ONE are kept apart and the respective teams barely speak - whereas in a previous role in a different authority, the 2 databases were on adjoining screens on our PCs - the 2 were compared for consistency. Interesting to speculate how an authority might view a request to export data back to any school with this hypothetical issue - we'd probably want some sort of a fee....

We just logged this although there is a KB... KB406122 Register Column Headings are Blank in Edit Marks In Edit Marks the column headings (where you would see the period numbers/names) are blank. This issue only occurs when using Lesson Monitor. The register column headings in Edit Marks appear blank for individual students when multiple days are displayed, but the ordering of lessons or sessions on one (or more) of the days is different. When this happens, the column headings show as blank because the fixed headings (e.g. AM 1 2 3 PM 4 5) would not be true in all cases. This issue can be resolved by ensuring that the AM and PM sessions occur at the same time every day in Tools | Setups | Lesson Monitor Options | Lesson Monitor Setup. This can also happen when there is a list of students where some have different layouts of the day, or for example if there is a guest student in the group (guests don’t have session attendance which can cause the columns to show differently). When you open a date range in Edit Marks where there is no difference in layout of the day or a group that doesn’t have any students with different layouts, the column headings will show.
