Can't remember the last time it rang or it was used but we do have one, simply because it reduces the overall bill. ridiculous really but thats VM for you.

That's exactly why I moaned, citing recent changes by OFCOM to eliminate the requirement of phonelines, fair business etc. They relented.

Yup "I can get a better deal elsewhere, i'm annoyed that you still provide better deals with more services that I don't want or need (landline) and OFCOM have recently said that's naughty. Before I sign up with a broadband only deal and get my TV from elsewhere, is there something you can do? Rinse and repeat for customer services, customer service manager and retentions. Took a couple of days.

That's the service Google needs to release for customers, instead of booking an appointment, auto-annoy customer "service" until they give you a discount. A robot could stay on the line for years and not care

I don't even have a home landline anymore, I have unlimited minutes on my mobile and usually call via the wifi connection with Whatsapp or 3CX. I don't think I know any young people that have a home landline anymore

Well I am old, and we do still have a landline - but only because mrwITch's father and sister use it. They do have mobiles, but the mindset is when at home, use the landline

Actually it can be quite useful because if they leave a message for mrwITch on the landline, I see it and respond, whereas if they left it on his mobile, hell could freeze over before he would listen to his voicemail

We don't have a landline, we just use our mobiles - we also don't have any internet service to the property. I piggy back off my Mum's internet connection round the corner via a wifi bridge. She has a sky fibre phone/bb/tv package as she still uses landlines extensively for all the charity work she does. We pay 1/3 of her bill to cover our use of her BB. This also means that we have a single Unifi wifi network across both properties, which is handy.

I've not had a landline (or a TV service) for about 8 years... maybe longer. I currently have VM Broadband only (50Mbps) that I managed to haggle down to £26 pcm. Seriously considering binning even that next time it goes up, as I hardly ever use it.

 

I have a Virgin Mobile contract with 2GB data, 1500 minutes plus 1000 mins to 0845/0870 numbers and unlimited calls to other Virgin mobiles - all for £9 per month. Baaahhhhgin!

if bt would sell me internet without a landline i would or if virgin allowed me to use their service that they dug up the road for months ago id use that the only people who ever ring the landline are my parents or people asking about ppi

I have a landline in my pad, Never plugged a phone in yet and been there just over a year. I have FTTP 150-up 150-down full fibre to the house but they wouldn't let me have the fibre broadband with landline...

I just don't know how people afford unlimited minute on their mobile contract. I still have a phone line for those proper calls. I am currently annoyed that BT have not upgraded my Green box to G.fast and I don't want cable as I remember the mess they made of the UK in the early 90 digging stuff up. Does no one worry about emergencies not having a landline and not being able to find your mobile?

In an emergency, most people would be closer to their mobile than they would to a landline.

Definitely much closer to a mobile. We have two mobiles and no landline but aren't concerned

 

In an emergency I could also call from my watch which connects to my phone wherever in the house it is.

Also a really loud shout of 'Hey Siri - Diall 999' would probably do the trick also

My MIL has unlimited minutes on her £9 a month GiffGaff contract

There used to be a rule (law?) that if you have a phone line it must have a phone plugged in so that someone can ring 999 if they need to

 

hence if you had a cordless phone then you had to have another non cordless one plugged in as well in case of power cuts (remember I lived in times when power cuts were regular)

 

I remember this being explained on instruction of cordless phones when they first came out

 

anyone else heard of this - or even know whether or not it was ever/is law???

- using a phone box must be a dying art! Queueing up to use them when a student - and that distinctive smell of old fag ends and pi$$
