smarties11 Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Hi, We've just noticed that when printing more than once, the page numbers in the footer are incorrect. Student printed their 4 page document and got pages 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4. They then printed again (by accident, apparently) and got pages 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4. I've just tested on my machine and have been able to replicate the same error. Thanks for all your hard work - we are using it for our current mock exam series and so far it seems to be working really well :-D

riddick_kawaii Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Any plans for getting this ported over to Mac's ? Its a great tool on windows..
ass17 Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 Any plans for getting this ported over to Mac's ? Its a great tool on windows.. the main part of the software is .net framework code so would port over using something like Mono, but the DLL library for the richedit box might be more tricky. I can investigate for future builds but for the time being why not try PortingKit? its free.... Porting Kit | Download
ass17 Posted November 22, 2016 Author Posted November 22, 2016 (edited) Now fixed in Build 2.0.6.6 is page numbering on multiple prints within the same session. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Rz5d6Ck6CCaFpZWGpoR1BkRUU Also fixed is when you restore a previous version the cursor sets to the end of the text. DMaple Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 One thing I've noticed is if you open a file it just appends it to the existing file. Is this intentional behaviour? This came up because rather than the student printing the work the teacher was reviewing and accessing then printing each students mocks, and wasn't closing the program between opening different files. Each file was added to the last file. Another request would be could you make the width of the writing area narrower to better simulate Word and other packages. We've had some complaints from a few students that the long width makes it hard to judge paragraph length and follow the line. Thanks again for your work on this.

I have thought about this but not sure what the best approach is because I have to contend with different screen widths. I think what I will do is base it on a specific visual page size option, A4 and/or Letter. Get the size of an A4 price of paper convert it to pixels based on a specific DPI like 72 which would give a page width of 595pixels. But the problem lies with actual screen widths of 1980 where the page would only appear a quarter width. I know with the rich text box I use I definitely cannot do page breaks with each page visually separated. But I'm sure people are not bothered so much by page heights but more so widths. I'll see what I can do over the festive period whilst entertaining a wife and two kids [emoji1]
ass17 Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Ok so I have sorted out all the issues in the previous post and I will release v2.0.7.0 on Tuesday 3rd Jan (might be before that if Im bored :-) ), Have a great Christmas everyone!!
ass17 Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Below is a download link below: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2Rz5d6Ck6CCRjc5OFdzNnNGTzQ Fixes/Changes Fix - When opening multiple saved documents it appended the existing text instead of clearing it out first. Feature - Added the ability to display the text area in an A4 page width or full screen width. The option have been added to 'Screen Options' menu item and a config option 'StartPageWidth' to use as default on startup. 0 = Full screen page width or 1 = A4 page width. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! 1
Wubbalubbadub Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Sat browsing the forums before heading back to work on the 4th... we successfully used the software for our Mocks... our exams manager loves it. I have set group policy to automatically open the app when they login, so it has also meant so much less work for us! The only comment the exam officer has was, would it be possible to get page breaks when they start a new page, or someway of seeing how many pages they have typed?

The only comment the exam officer has was, would it be possible to get page breaks when they start a new page, or someway of seeing how many pages they have typed? Hi, I can't do it with the basic tools I have and to get page breaks would require commercial paid tools. What interests me more is why number of pages visually is important?? I can't see why and which exam board would set an exam with specific page numbers. I would say the page width is more important.. [emoji1]
RLR Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 We're currently using this for our mocks and is going well so far. I think I have found one small bug. Our extra timers are told to change their font to bold when they go into extra time. If we want to open the ExamWritePad file to re-print, it seems to open up okay and all the font formatting is correct. But as soon as we hit print, it converts everything back to normal. The only way round this I've found is to open the file, save the file again (saving with the same name works) and then print. Hope this makes sense.
RLR Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 We've also noticed that when it autosaves (I think it's the autosave) it moves the screen/scroll wheel so that the typing cursor is at the top of the screen pad. This is confusing some of our students.
ass17 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 Ok no problem will take a look at both, we are currently using now live this week and no issues reported, but that doesn't mean there aren't any of course [emoji1]

This is confusing some of our students. The only time it does this is in the first minute of using the software when you start typing and the autosave pops up a message to suggest that you havent yet saved your file. When you have saved your file, the auto save cursor position is fine. So I have tracked down the initial autosave when the file is not yet saved cursor bug and fixed it. :-)

I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact cause, as its to do with the initial print dialogue window or a bug in the RTF library. BUT, but I have a work-around for it, so cross that one off the list, Phew!! It took me a while to figure this one out :-)
ass17 Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) So here its is folks.... A full changelog (link at the bottom) 2.0.7.2 Fixed - If toolstrip menu was hidden the text window did not move up to use the extra space provided. 2.0.7.3 Fixed - When any error message shows on the candidate information screen the error sits in front of the text box making it difficult to set focus (click on) and type into the box. 2.0.7.4 Fixed - Cursor position was setting itself to the start when initial first autosave and then saving the file happens. Cursor now retains is last position. 2.0.7.5 Fixed - Autosave now pauses while printing 2.0.7.6 Fixed - On first print when formatting (bold, underline etc..) is applied, it resets the formatting and continues to print without formatting. 2.0.7.7 Fixed - When double clicking on a ExamText file that you may have saved, for example on the desktop, it launches ExamWritePad and the ExamText file with all formatting reset/removed. I still have the issue of when the document manually saves or autosaves, the cursor is in the correct position but it will jump that line of text to the top of the pad. Not to the beginning but if there is a scroll wheel, it will jump to the top. I've added some photos to try and explain. Which ever line the cursor is on, that line will jump to the top. Not major issue but a student has brought it up.

smarties11 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Thanks for the new version @ass17! I've installed here today. Much better now with the page width option, especially on laptops with their widescreen displays. A small request if possible - is it possible to get the exam board field to preserve case when auto-matching? e.g., if you type 'a' (lower case) in the exam board field and then press tab to select 'AQA', what is left in the box is 'aQA'. Could it also be changed to a combo box with the exam boards in the drop down? As always, thanks for your work on this. It worked exceptionally well during our mocks without any problems or crashes whatsoever!
RLR Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Is there anyway to stop all the text being highlighted when it auto saves? Getting reports saying it's disrupting the students flow if they see a flash on the screen.

I created a 4 page document and while I was typing when manual saving and auto-saving it always stays and doesn't move. So if the cursor was at the bottom of the window, this is where it says and doesn't jump. Also nowhere in my code does it state to jump the writing window, so really cant do much at the moment, no-one else has reported this either, I'm scratching my head with this one sorry!!
