Whilst it runs its own OS, with a 3rd party app, it seems you can connect it to your PC too. I'm looking forward to giving Elite: Dangerous and Star Trek: Bridge Crew (among other things) a go with this!

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a great game to pass a few hours with some mates! One of my favourite VR games along with Beat Saber.

Just started Payday 2 VR on the Vive. loving it so far, turning while crouched trying not to be seen by an FBI agent while picking a lock is a little tricky, but feels so much more real in VR. There is just something about being able to glance over your shoulder while still doing stuff with your hands, and firing in two different directions at eh same time.

Not got any games apart from some demos, but enjoying my PS VR - it's excellent for the price (and mine was a bargain). There's a decent catalogue of games now, and good to read that it'll work with PS5.

Yeah, I've played it with a few friends, just without VR. We've yet to try the latest TNG update though.

TNG update is great for fans, had me grinning all the way through it. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Reminds me of the old Star Trek: Bridge Commander game from back in the day. Too bad it doesn't run that well once you go beyond Windows 7.

Resurrecting an old thread here, but last night, I discovered the new Oculus Quest, which is "all-in-one" VR headset - Runs its own games, doesn't require a heavy duty PC to connect to, and is completely cable-free (it has a battery life of 2-3 hours, apparently). One of the launch titles for it is Vader Immortal, and it looks exactly like what you'd want from a VR Star Wars game. After watching some gameplay, I may have kinda accidentally on purpose placed an order...

I bought one a couple of weeks ago though I actually ended up returning it as one of the controllers had a dodgy trigger. It's an amazing headset and I'm astounded what they've managed to pull off with a mobile snapdragon chipset! The controllers (same as the rift S) are perfect and tracking work pretty much flawlessly as well. Being able to put on the headset and enter VR anywhere you can find an open space is also fantastic. The "guardian" system is pretty cool and a good way of stopping you bumping into things. Basically it shows grid lines when you're close to a wall/etc and if you pop your head past them it switches to the camera view so you can see the "real" world. It's a real revolution being able to play in VR without a cable as it means you can freely turn around without getting tangled and walk wherever you have space without fear of snagging the cable.

One negative I would add, which actually has me contemplating whether I should buy another, is that the comfort of the headset is incredibly poor. The strap they've used is nowhere near substantial enough to take the weight of the headset which it pretty front heavy given it contains the display, Chipset, battery, etc. Honestly, it's bad to the point of actually being painful to wear for any length of time. I've seen a few people attach counterweights to the back of the headset which apparently helps balance it slightly. Some have even gone so far as fitting an HTC Vive Audio Strap to create the "Franken-Quest"!

I'll probably order another when they're back in stock in July though and try my hand at modding the device either with a counterweight or HTC strap as it really is pretty amazing and, comfort aside, by far the best VR headset I've tried to date. Also, unless your really want the space don't bother with the 128Gb model. 64Gb is fine as most of the games are only a couple of gig.

Yeah, I've seen one review say that it's front heavy and could do with something to counterbalance it. I'll see how it feels once it arrives, my order is now processing for dispatch, and the money has left my account...

I ordered the 64GB model, as I heard that it should be plenty for most owners. Also, the extra £100 for the 128GB was a little too steep for my taste!

The following article was mentioned in the Valve Index review above. A VR version of Half Life or Portal would be awesome! :)

Valve teases 'flagship' VR game coming this year

As for whether or not a Half-Life VR game exists at all, I think the evidence (which I run down in yesterday's article) is pretty compelling, but we'll have to wait a little longer to find out what this "flagship" game is. The word does imply it comes from one of Valve's most beloved series—a "flagship" Microsoft game is a Halo game, for instance.

But who the hell knows? It's Valve.

Well, my Oculus Quest arrived yesterday afternoon and I think it's amazing. A shout-out to Y*del who, despite me changing the delivery address to a friend's house because it required a signature for delivery, they ignored that entirely and delivered it to my flat by throwing it over the back fence without a signature... Luckily, there was no damage!

I used it for a few hours straight last night, and whilst it took a little wrangling to get the headset in focus for me, I didn't find it all that uncomfortable. The display is noticeably better than the old Rift DK2 and Vive I tried a few years ago, which is much appreciated.

Also, Vader Immortal is just the best thing! The replayability may only be the lightsaber training mode, but with 70 levels, it's going to last me a while. I had so much fun with it yesterday!

DOTA 2 VR already exists though :p

Well, that's a relief.

Portal would be ideal in VR. As you spend most of the time teleporting anyway, they shouldn't need to mess with general movement controls. I suspect the Portal 2 'falling' sequence would be a rather uncomfortable experience though!

Yeah, it's an epic device. I didn't find it particularly comfortable but other than that it's pretty much perfect in terms of the features, optics, tracking and controllers.

I'd say the following titles are all pretty much "Must buys" if you're looking for recommendations :-

Superhot

Beat Saber

UltraWings

Robo Recall

Space Pirate Trainer

If you haven't yet definitely give Rec Room Paintball a try as it's free and fantastic. I really hope they add the Rec Royale mode to the Quest as that's my favourite though. I've also been recommended Moss, Sairento VR and Accounting+ by various friends as well.

Also, not unlike Steam, bear in mind that Oculus have a 2 hours playtime / 14 day refund policy on their store apps so if you buy a game and don't like it it's easy to refund.

Have you had a chance to try connecting it to a PC using ALVR/Virtual Desktop for streaming PC VR titles yet?

Thanks for the recommendations, I've already seen/tried a few of those but after splashing out on the headset, I'm a little short of money right now!

Yeah, I managed to get RiftCat working with it, which was pretty good (although paid). Whilst I haven't tried any true VR titles on it yet, I did try a bit of Elite: Dangerous. It was great and incredibly immersive, but it still suffers with UI readability issues much like the old DK2 and Vive did when I tried those. I don't think it was quite as bad, but I think I need to do some testing and playing around to see if I can maximise the image quality. RiftCat are still developing proper functionality for the Quest on PC, so we'll see what happens.

I'm sure the 1.08% of Steam users with VR will be absolutely ecstatic

VR is still very much a gimmick with incredibly niche uses. I do hope the development focus is in the right place, and it's 'A good game' first, with the 'VR' bit coming second.

Hell, if it's not also a non-VR title, it'll be pretty inconsequential.
