Is the SP3 install file digitally signed?

Err I'm pretty sure the correct one was (316MB) and the other one wasent, it looks all good to me its not showing a build number in System Properties or winver which is normally a good sign. :)

Spent all day repairing after the BSOD on a install.

The first repair kept rebooting saying something about virtual memory and scandisk repaired lots of files that where okay before.

Just managed to get it back on but IE doens;t work still.

I'm just waitin till the 29th

hooray.

This thread is really quite funny....

Wait for the MS to release the service pack, and then spend some time testing it. I don't see why there is such a rush to deploy this. We all know that MS release buggy products.

Your all just wasting time "testing" betas - when this isn't representative of what you'll actually deploy. What exactly is the rush? Just more unnecessary work as far as I can tell - there'll be a lot more documentation on this in a couple of months....

I wonder if it's one of those early adopter things.....

wonder if the guys rushing to try out SP3, or atleast somewhow get it installed before the 29th release are proud owners of HD-DVD players :D

hd-dvd?

Well noone wants them, do they? :D

I was actually quite interested in deploying SP3 on my home machine, but given the varying responses to it here, I may hold off until it's pushed through Automatic Updates.

hd-dvd?

What i'm trying to say, although not very well, is that deplying pre-release SP3 now is a complete waste of time....much better to take a wait and see approach rather than be a beta testers/early adopters.

As was the case with the format wars.....wait and see and then make the decision to buy once the dust has settled.

hd-dvd is usless in vista, because MS have restricted the quality to prevent piracy.

so is ms supporting it in xp sp3?

Well.... I've got 15 laptops to install on Monday and an ICT suite to refurbish on Wednesday and 15 staff laptops to install the week after!

If at all possible, I'd rather not have to this all once this week then haul them all back in the following month! The hour per machine saved by not waiting for WSUS to install 100 patches will be a bonus too. I am blissfully optimistic that it will all be OK!

Ian sits and waits for his optimism to be dashed.

Downloaded and installed here without any problems, the new remote desktop feature looks funky, that's about all I can see thats changed.

Seems OK on my Virtual PC but not got to rebuild the images for a month or 2 yet (preparing for summer) so will wait to see any bugs.

Tbh it's really more of an update rollup than new features, some of which (remote desktop) I been installing as optional updates for a while now - be good to be able to do it all in one go once SP3 settles in :)

I've installed it on 5 machines so far. Three of the installs went without any problems but the other two kept stalling. After a quick reboot, roll back to SP2, then restarting in safe mode, the install went fine!

I'm currently in the process of rebuilding our Images (only 4 :D) with SP3 and working out a plan to deploy this on our current systems. The key thing for me is that this includes all the hotfix's that you previously had to contact MS for. We had to install 1/2 of these on every image we made to fix a problem with login times. So it's pretty handy to no longer have to do that.
