Netman Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Netman: I got the problem as well. I just used a windows PE disk to fix the problem. The build geoff posted is 3264 Windows XP SP3 has final version of 5.1 and build number 5512 (5.1.2600.5512), a little higher than Windows XP RC2 Refresh (v.5508), but not the speculated build 5573. The link I gave is the final RTM release (5512). I've only tested it on the one machine so far, but had no problems...
cookie_monster Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Yes i think the version Geoff posted was 3264 i've just installed it on a test box. and repeat :-)
ZeroHour Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 (edited) Geoff's build screenie. I have also yanked my "thanks", grrrr Edited April 24, 2008 by ZeroHour
jcs808 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 jcs808 was that on a fresh install or one that you've been running for a while? Been running for a while on a pc in the workshop, installed on top of sp2. It was the version in the link Geoff posted, so I'll wait until I download the rtm build and try again.
ZeroHour Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Netman: Can you do us a fav and post the checksums for the file you have? or even the exact byte count?

mullet_man Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I downloaded the link Geoff provided, and got the GDI32.dll error. Just sorted it now.
Geoff Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I downloaded the link Geoff provided, and got the GDI32.dll error. Just sorted it now. I posted two versions, the latter post has the correct one. The earlier post with the big red warnings, does not.
cookie_monster Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 Err i must be going mad i downloaded the first one (now in red) and it shows as 336 MB (352,430,632 bytes) the latest (from your VLE) shows as 316 MB (331,805,736 bytes) Is this correct?
Netman Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 So the 316MB one is the correct file? Indeed it is... there is a 500+Mb ISO and the Windows Update size will be from 70Mb upwards, but the standalone x86 installer that Geoff and I have made available is 316Mb...
cookie_monster Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 Ok nice one. It's odd for an RTM SP be be smaller than the beta version.
gshaw Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Just installed on my VM Will build into new images for the summer methinks, should keep the XP train rolling along for a while yet
cookie_monster Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 I've just installed it and it's still v3264
ZeroHour Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I've just installed it and it's still v3264 Was that on a fresh pc?
cookie_monster Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 It was on a fresh almost fully patched SP2 PC yes.
torledo Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 @Grommit - Because XP SP3 is essentially SP2 + all hotfixes, so there's minimal new functionality. When deploying new workstations it should be a lot easier and faster. I'm not saying it'll be perfect, and I'm sure SP3 will have some problems (which is why i will test it first). Does that mean it'll come with WM9, as in SP2 ?
cookie_monster Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 It's still MP9 and i noticed that after i installed it an icon had sneaked onto my quick launch.
PiqueABoo Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 > I've just installed it and it's still v3264 Is the SP3 install file digitally signed?
cookie_monster Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 I'll look on monday but at this point i'll just wait untill it's on the MS site and download it from there. Cheers.
