hardtailstar Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Hi All, I have a room where I have replaced the projector and the words on anything shown on the projector have a blurry shadow after them. They are fine on any laptop connected to the projector. I have replaced the VGA cable from the laptop to wall box. Short of ripping out and replacing all cables, is there anything I can do first? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes an unshielded section may be near a light fixture or similar which may cause some interference, and very cheap VGA patch cables can do this. Is the VGA lead tightly connected at all points? 1
LeMarchand Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 About the only things I can think of would be checking the connection at the projector end (presumably done, as you've plugged laptops directly into it if I'm reading your post correctly) and opening up the wall box - if you're lucky the connection will be a gender changer that you could check for tightness or maybe try changing. Oh, and anything new in the room along the VGA line? Maybe something's causing some sort of interference?

Is the VGA lead tightly connected at all points? yep all cables connected properly. might be up in the ceiling as its near a light.
Rob_D Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 Just to be clear, this happened after you put a new projector in? (or did it happen with 2 consecutive projectors?) Assuming you've checked the focus dial/option on the projector, it sounds like ghosting to me (could you put a picture up to give us a better idea?). I find this is normally due to cables or connectors (most of the time for us it's loose or dodgy connections. I'd definitely try running a single cable from the laptop to the projector and seeing if it has the same problem? If you still have the problem, then it's a fairly safe bet it's the projector (if you've already tried multiple laptops). If this clears up the problem then it's looking like your wall cables. I only noticed it when the new projector was plugged in. yep focus dial checked, I will try and get a picture today. will try running a cable straight from the projector Thanks
jthompson Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I've found in the past that things like this can sometimes only come about when a specific combination of projector, cabling and laptop come together. That is, all of those three parts can themselves be perfectly fine with other equipment of the same model, but manufacturing tolerances etc. can come into play. In such instances, swapping projectors between rooms can be the answer (easier than refitting cable looms). 1

It all goes off to the right. Same size. Will be checking the cable today
thebatman Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 We used to get this if the cable was not shielded, one way we got round this (before we changed to shielded/HDMI cables) was to put a powered VGA splitter in at the PC/Laptop end. Some PCs/Laptops give out stronger signals than others. Shielded cables are normally thicker in size, this includes the patch from the laptop to the wall socket. My sergestion is to try the patch cable straight into the projector, this will rule out the projector. Then you have a chose of, replace cable with a shielded cable or install a powered splitter to act as a booster. 2

Grab a laptop and long VGA lead, plug it directly in to the Projector and laptop and if that works the lead 'in the wall' needs replacing.

Grab a laptop and long VGA lead, plug it directly in to the Projector and laptop and if that works the lead 'in the wall' needs replacing. its fixing it by itself, said in an earlier post that its not as bad as it was yesterday!
