Katy Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 maybe posting the ticket numbers and MLS might just think about answering and don't forget we pay for the privilege of not getting solutions to problems, quite a good business model. Mine was in January, and we terminated* in May after no useful response. *technically the deputy head had already cancelled it but the subscription ran til May, and we had said that if we got it set up with the new librarian and she liked it we'd un-cancel.
Disease Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 MLS must have the worst support going, I have been trying to resolve an issue with ad syncing for over a week now and each time I call it's over an hour wait. Whenever we trying and sync it gets to the end and throws this error: Spent 3 hours on the phone in total now with no resolution.
BOOT Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I expect to hear the bankruptcy announcement soon... given how many unhappy customers there are.
Joanne Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 Maybe someone can help me... I'm trying to update pupil info. I'm using their ReportDef in SIMS and the csv file looks fine. All headers are there. Go to MLS, Intake, Import, select SIMS.net, choose my csv file and it throws this error at me: The headings are exactly as it says here...
Steve21 Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 What's the CSV layout look like (in notepad)? Not specifically with MLS but sometimes you find if you've opened it in excel and saved it it does stuff like adding "s which upset some silly programs as it no longer matches e.g. "AdNo" not Adno Steve
Joanne Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 It's imported some of it now... but the year group hasn't pulled across... so frustrating!
Joanne Posted October 17, 2017 Author Posted October 17, 2017 What's the CSV layout look like (in notepad)? Not specifically with MLS but sometimes you find if you've opened it in excel and saved it it does stuff like adding "s which upset some silly programs as it no longer matches e.g. "AdNo" not Adno Steve Heading as followed: "Adno","Surname","Forename","Gender","DOB","DOA","Year","Reg","Ethnicity","First Language","SEN Status","FSM Ever 6","Pupil Premium Indicator" Looks like you can't import the last few I'm after.... why do they even have the options in the borrower record if you can't import the data??
mikeprice Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 All this makes me really glad we went for a cheap system that just does the basic bits with no bells or whistles at all and I can manipulate the database in Access Micro Lib were pestering me for ages about how wonderful their system is - good job I ignored them!!!
witch Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 TBF whenever the librarian sits on the phone on hold for a very long time around 3.00pm she does eventually get throught and the support has been top notch - helping an elderly lady who isnt that computer savvy isn't easy and every time they have worked out what she was asking for and sorted it out. It seems to me that they just havent got enough people on support
synaesthesia Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 They've had that issue for years though and haven't solved it. There was a glimmer of hope (and of course dread) when Capita took them over that it might help with staffing but obviously not. We'd love to ditch it and quite likely we will be.
Joanne Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 Just been asked to export a list of our books from the library system... Getting this Also can't log into My MLS... almost like our account has been disabled...
denzal2k4 Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I like the way you log a support call, they offer a solution and then close it immediately without checking it's worked.
round2it Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 If they had a good product the need for more support staff would be negated.
BOOT Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Indeed. The whole thing just seems so unfinished. 1
Joanne Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 Everyone seen the whitelisting document? I hadn't until today. They are migrating to cloud hosted servers and the following will need to be whitelisted: *.microlibrarian.net sip.uk.microlibrarian.net *.juniorlibrarian.net *.eclipselibrarian.net *.mlslibraries.net *.microlib.co.uk discoveryimages.azurewebsites.net mlsdolimage.azurewebsites.net microlibdoldata.blob.core.windows.net http://www.readingcloud.net
mavhc Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Everyone seen the whitelisting document? I hadn't until today. They are migrating to cloud hosted servers and the following will need to be whitelisted: Those websites really inspire confidence. "last updated 2013", "Install silverlight", 4:3 website that says "install flash"
Joanne Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 they are trying to push their new product reading cloud, which superseeds Junior Librarian... so I can kind of understand why it isn't being updated... but I don't understand why they don't just create a great product and make sure it remains great. I think our school will be buying into the reading cloud
synaesthesia Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Put your foot down with documented evidence of the difficulties you have. We're looking at Koha now.
mavhc Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Perhaps we need to be creating a document about how to setup and use Koha aimed at UK schools, including tips on migrating from MLS 1
synaesthesia Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I'm documenting this anyway for our own records, I will be happy to share an abridged version. 2
mikkydoos Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 I suffer with MLS also. What are the alternatives you guys have found ?
mavhc Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 A google document where people request commenting/editing rights seems like a good start. We've been mostly looking at https://koha-community.org/
mavhc Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Is anyone using biometrics or rfid with Koha? To login or to identify the books?
Joanne Posted November 27, 2017 Author Posted November 27, 2017 anyone ever had it where you can't access all the settings on the admin console? I'm trying to change restrictions, but it's not happening for me!
