I'm a little confused as to why guns = bad but what amounts to a giant flamethrower = OK, though. New Tardis interior looked a bit gloomy, but it's not fair to condemn it on just a brief look.

I do hope so Custard cream bit was a bit daft and I wasnt that keen on her behaviour - she is very mannered and overdone. Also hated the fact that she was sorry and whiny about them failing to find the Tardis - she gave up far too quickly for The Doctor

We know that, but they seemed to be spelling things out for newbies. Though I guess you could argue that the "flexible" approach to destruction could also be part of the lesson for DW virgins.
localzuk Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 I'm not sure why she needs 3 companions ? I'm gonna guess that might change episode to episode going forward? Made sense to the story so far for all 3, but it might always be a bit chaotic with 3 every episode.

Plenty to keep us interested, further development of our alien race from EP1 as a potential big bad for the series and hints at a more personal doctor storyline to come. As for guns and the number of companions. Well, in almost every series since it was brought back with Eccleston they've had at least one moment where The Doctor makes the same point about guns. It's a running theme, and it's often used to great effect by enemies who know how willing to sacrifice life The Doctor actually is. I'm rather enjoying having an assortment of companions. We learn about The Doctor vicariously through the experiences of the companions and I rather like having multiple differing points of view. This also won't be the first Doctor to travel with a large group, so its hardly something new Roll on EP3

The Doctor has had as many in the Tardis at one time on many occasions, starting with the first Doctor and Susan, Ian, and Barbara. Later on the fourth and fifth Doctors had Adric, Nyssa, and Tegan as fellow travelers. More examples exist.
Garacesh Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Watched it last night 'cause I was busy Sunday. Jodie seems to be finding her footing very quickly (as opposed to say, Matt Smith, who had a fantastic debut episode and then wend a bit meehhh for a while). I'm enjoying her as The Doctor so far. There were a few off-key moments, as @witch mentioned I do feel she kind of gave up a little too quickly, where Jodie was apologising for failing, previous Doctors would have had that final spark of brilliance that saves the day, but I'm hoping that's because it's still early days. I think overall I still enjoyed this episode but it had a bit less substance to it than the first, but we got some more information on the Stensa (so I'm guessing they're the big bad of this season) and some more character development, so I don't mind a slower episode every once in a while if we get something useful out of it. As for the new TARDIS, I like it for the most part. I really like the crystals, and the interior wall with all the blue bits is lovely. The vestibule entrance, I think, is an un-needed change, the doorway has always been the same in recent memory, that was the one constant about the ever-changing TARDIS, and I think they've changed it just for change's sake. The repeating pattern on the wall is a bit meh, but looking back, all of the outer walls have been a bit meh (Such as Tennant's Dalek-wall). Time will tell what happened with the centre pillar thing that goes up-and-down, I think that was quite a key feature of the TARDIS, but at the end of the day it's not one that's utterly irreplaceable. I still think Graham and Ryan will bond and get dropped off back home, unsure what'll happen with Yasmin. At first I figured she'd be hanging around with the Doctor but there was a moment in the latest episode that makes me wonder if she'll stick around with Ryan as a love interest and we'll see them later on. I mean, I'm assuming the shot of Lee Mack in an orange hi-vis from the after-credits previews of Episode 1 is the same guy Tim Shaw was after, so I suspect we're going to be revisiting those characters later on in their timeline. If it is Tim Shaw's target (I forget his name, guess he's not that special 'eh? ) just all grown up, he'd have aged a lot so I'd guess that Graham wouldn't be around any more, so we might get some references to off-screen character development/bonding between Graham and Ryan. Or maybe Graham will decide this is all too much for him and go home, and Ryan and Yasmin will stick around with The Doctor. Time will tell, I guess.

I'm seeing Graham doing something heroic that may cost him his life and Ryan finally calling him Granddad. That sounds both clichéd and heartbreaking at the same time. Don't make me have to change my signature! I'm new to Who, and already slightly concerned that it's going to have one of those storylines [common to American things] where the principal character confronts some suppressed, parent-based or abandonment-based trauma from their childhood. Oh of course. My hypothesising is working on the assumption that Graham and Ryan get dropped off back home soonish, in the right time period. If they're still travelling with The Doctor there'll be a very confused Karl(?) noticing they haven't aged at all. I'm seeing Graham doing something heroic that may cost him his life and Ryan finally calling him Granddad. If they don't 'go home', this is what I see happening too. You know what we've not seen in a while? Torchwood. Maybe if something tragic does happen to Graham, Ryan could join up with them? That'd be cool!

However, after the change from 10th Doctor to 11th [David Tennant to Matt Smith] the 11th Doctor did develop a hankering for fish fingers and custard.
