Have decided to make it more interesting by going via the tube to Westminster, river boat and cable car as it doesn't take much longer than going via tube / DLR. Will be jumping on the cattle train on the way back though, but thanks for the tip regarding Prince Regent station. No idea how to do that but boats and cable cars sound cool - can someone give a Northerner directions please

Euston to Westminster (via Green Park) on Underground. Walk to Westminster pier and catch the Thames clipper (RB1) to North Grenwich Pier. From here catch the cable car over the river and stroll to the Excel. £6.50 on the boat and £2.50 on the cable car.

Does this sound about right? 1) Arrive at Paddington Station. 2) Catch Circle Line (Heading - Edgware Road Direction) get off at Tower Hill. 3) Walk to Tower Gateway. 4) Catch the DLR (Heading - Beckton Direction) get off at Prince Regent. 5) Bumble around, looking lost, until I find an entrance the the ExCel. Cheers. Sounds about right. Come in at entrance N8 from the concourse and walk in a straight line (slightly to the right of the entrance) and you'll find us 1

Walk through the scaffolded passage, cross the road (2 minutes walk) and go up the escalator into Tower Gateway DLR Get the Beckton train and get off at Custom House 2

My route is much better than anything that involves changing at Canning Town... trust me! 1

Kings Cross/St Pancras > Circle Line to Tower Hill > Walk across to Tower Gateway > DLR to Custom House (or Prince Regent this year). Peter 1

I only ask because last time I took the underground I got off at one underground station to pop in to a shop and when I returned my outbound ticket wouldn't let me through the gate, luckily the staff let me through but when I arrived at my final stop again the ticket wouldn't let me out... Or does the DLR have its own ticket?

If you buy a Travelcard you can get on and off anywhere you want in the relevant zone (I think paper tickets are only zone 1-6 now which is all but the very fringes of the London travel area). Singles, returns and tickets that allow cross-London travel via the Tube don't allow a break of journey but normally you have to exit the train station and re-enter at a Tube station anyway which lets you pop into a shop between catching trains. I generally find London has a habit of distracting me (seriously, I once ended up somewhere in Lambeth on my journey to Moorgate because I wanted to visit a shop) so I always buy a Travelcard. AJWhite1970 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 The DLR shuttle for Excel is running today from Canning Town. It will have a destination of Gallions Reach and goes from platform 1. This means there is a DLR every 5 minutes from Canning Town rather than the usual 10
tg12 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Just got on my train down to find there's no trains running between here and London due to overhead lines falling down. Looks like I may end up missing my first BETT EDIT: between Witham and Shenfield if anyone's using that route or planning to!
