I don't think they need to create an account but by adding the reseller token they have remote access to your domain, it seems you can turn this off manually afterwards in the settings, but not clear if this prevents them maintaining the licenses in the future.

Thanks Fiza, That's what they were asking for, seems crazy to me and totally unnecessary, transfer control of my domain from Google to a reseller with admin privileges so they can allocate Google licenses to my Google product... what?!

Hi, Has anyone bought Enterprise for Education licenses recently? I'm just in the process of getting a quote from a reseller and they are basically wanting us to transfer our entire Google domain to their control with full admin access. I believe DPM needs Hyper-V installed, just checking my 2019 DPM Server it has Hyper-V installed. From my cloudy memory if it's not installed the DPM Installer will add it during pre-requisites check, it doesn't install any Hyper-V Management Tools though.

Did those of you who require GSuite sign in enable the YouTube 'app' for students in GSuite then? When I looked at this to use the 'Approve' options in YouTube the students had to be able to login to YouTube using their GSuite account which required them to have the YouTube service enabled against their account which: 1) Requires Parental approval for under 13s and 2) Allows Students to upload content to their school YouTube channel for all the world to view. Is that still the case?

RDP on to the Core server and use the command line to run the exe? I've done it for Dell firmware updates for iDRAC as well as NIC drivers and never had any issue the window pops up and the wizards run through as normal.

Out of curiosity, which MDM did you switch from?

I think back then it was £35k + VAT. That was for 4 nodes each has a 2x 12 core Xeon CPUs, 256GB RAM, and a total of 20TB of usable storage (after mirroring) across the cluster. This compared to other quotes we had from Nutanix which was £150k + VAT and HP SAN solution which was around £65k (and only 2 nodes)

I'd agree with DrCheese, It does have specific requirements like RDMA on the storage network ports and non-RAID storage controller for its disks, you need to be aware of these if you intend to use refurb or existing kit. We spoke to Dell about S2D back in 2017 and they were very helpful with speccing a 4 node system for us including chats with their tech people and getting a demo system running in one of their data systems. The costs were far lower than we were seeing for other Hyper-Converged systems. At the same time we spoke to Dell we contacted HP, their sales team only wanted to get us to buy another StoreVirtual SAN and when we said we were only looking at S2D they never got back to us, despite the fact they were one of the manufacturers MS had worked with for reference architecture. In the end not only did HP not get a sale from our server refresh we decided later in the project to refresh our core and edge switches so ripped out pretty much all the HP switches and replaced it with Dell

I think you could always rename however nowadays MS don't promote it, plus if you have Exchange, MS SQL, or pretty much any MS Server Applications you'll need to create a new domain and migrate. Personally I'd create a new domain (and have in the past) as I can imagine a rename causing many difficult to trace issues.

We started with new Dell Servers, then decided to replace our HP Core Switches as they were quite old and didn't support all the functionality. Then we decided we wanted to get 10GB to the edge switches and the price HP were charging for 10GB GBICs it was only slightly more expensive to buy new Dell edge switches with all the 10GB GBICs we needed so we replaced ~80% of the edge switches to. Couldn't fault Dell, they were quick to provide a quote, answered all our questions and put us in contact with their networking specialists and S2D people to answer questions, we even got a few days with a S2D test system in one of their data centres to see how it all worked. I contacted HPE and Dell on the same day, I spoke to Dell who took all my requirements and used their DPAC service to evaluate our existing infrastructure. HPE called and weren't interested in quoting for S2D they just wanted to sell us a HP SAN or one of their HP Hyper-converged systems, I told them I was willing to look at them but wanted quotes for S2D servers to... I'm still waiting.

I've been looking at switching our Google Apps to ADFS (or more recently Azure AD) for SSO on and off for a few years. Has anyone else done this? I'd like to test it but all the guides I've read say that as soon as you enable it everyone will be logged out of Google Apps even if you revert the changes. How do iPads handle this? I guess the Google Apps now work ok, but what about the Mail app? Are all logins the ADFS/Azure logins or do you still need your Google Apps login for certain functions? Can you use Google Apps with Azure AD Basic? Are there any hidden costs? Thanks

We deployed this back in September last year, so far so good. We have about 80% of our VMs now running on it. We bought specific equipment from Dell as part of our infrastructure refresh so this had all been tested with S2D for performance/compatibility. The only slight divergence I made from the standard instructions was to split the Cluster/Storage Traffic to two 10GB NICs and VM Traffic to two separate 10GB NICs. My thoughts? Don't go for the minimum of two nodes, it wasn't supported in the preview builds but resellers campaigned for it so it was added in, however performance and reliability have been questionable and the vast majority of S2D failures I've read about are down to deploying two node clusters If you're reusing hardware keep in mind that S2D doesn't work on drives identified as RAID, if your storage controller only supports this mode then you'll need to replace it Check your networking capabilities, the NICs used for Storage replication should support RDMA to offload the processing to the NIC rather than the server CPU, there's other networking technologies that S2D can make use of to reduce latency and improve speeds make sure you know what they are, that your switches support them and that they are working Follow the guides, Dell, Lenovo and a few others have decent white papers on setting S2D up, read them even if you don't have their hardware as they go in to more depth than some of the MS documentation ("Just type Enable-ClusterS2D in PowerShell and everything just works!") Test, test, test. Use VMFleet to check performance of Storage Replication, test hardware failures by unplugging servers to make sure S2D can handle the failures Server Updates, use Cluster Aware Updating in Failover Cluster Manager to correctly deploy updates to each node, it will allow the time for the node to update, reboot, and re-replicate storage before taking the node out of Maintenance Mode and moving on to the next node. Compared to our old SAN based Windows Cluster which took ~90 mins to update 6 Nodes, the 4 Node S2D takes 5+ hours Hope that helps!

I've done this a few months ago. Make sure you're running the latest Exchange 2013 CU Setup the new 2016 server, set it up with the same Internal/External URLs as your existing 2013 server, use the same SSL certificate. Double and triple check your 2016 Internal/External URLs and Certificate settings are correct for everything (Autodiscover, ActiveSync, OWA, OAB, etc.) Update your DNS records to point at the new 2016 server. Clients will pick up the updated DNS settings and will switch over to the 2016 servers Client Access Server (ActiveSync will do this silently, Outlook clients will prompt the user to close and re-open Outlook) if you've done everything correctly the users will not see any errors or warnings. The new 2016 server at this point will handle all client requests and proxy the requests (where required) to the old Exchange 2013 server. Migrate your mailboxes to the new 2016 server (Outlook clients will get another request to close and re-open Outlook once their mailbox has finished migrating) There are a few other final steps, such as: Updating your Send/Receive connectors Update your incoming SMTP mail routing Migrate System Mailboxes Dismount and remove Exchange 2013 Databases Disable old server mail routing and check for queue backlogs Check you've got nothing pointing to the old mail servers IP Shut the 2013 server down and wait for any issues If there's no issues are a week boot the old server backup and uninstall Exchange 2013 to remove it from the Exchange Organisation Hope that helps, I have to say it was the easiest of the Exchange migrations I've had to do!

Downloaded and updated, you still need a key! However you can use your System Center key, we have the same key for all the System Center software so I assume everyone else does to. Update was painless, UI is still just as laggy as it was in 2016. When you're updating the DPM Agents the UI is all over the place, flashing between the percentage of the update and 'Error' and back to 'Update Available'...

SCCM isn't part of the 1801 System Center release, apparently VMM/DPM/OM/SM/O will be updated twice a year but SCCM is sticking with a three times a year schedule.

On ours there's no version number so 'System Center Data Protection Manager' or 'System Center Datacenter' for all of them

I downloaded it and it's the exact same size so suspect 'working to get this addressed' means it's on someones task list for this week...

Yer I've got servers running Windows Server 1709 that can't be monitored in Operations Manager 2016, so that was an easy choice. As for DPM, I'm probably going to have to rebuild the storage anyway as I really need dedup and its not working. Also IMHO System Center 2016 has been very poor overall for us, I've had to rebuild VMM and OM a couple of times because they just broke, last time I had to bin our entire VMM database and start a fresh as it couldn't update its library. DPM 2016 also keeps losing volumes of backed up items even though everything is on the same volume. I'm hoping System Center 1801 does to System Center 2016 what System Center 2012 R2 did to System Center 2012. First disapointment was that the much touted HTML OM Web Console still isn't compatible with iOS Safari...
