  1. Hi all, our SLT/school direction is to have several trolleys of Chromebooks/iPads/laptops which staff can book and then use in lessons. I've been asked to come up with a proper procedure for this and was wondering what you do in your schools, or would recommend? At the moment, we have 9 trolleys in total and the school site is split across four floors and two buildings - so it's not as easy as one trolley per floor unfortunately! They all currently live on the ground floor in a 'resource room' which has higher rated power sockets for charging and one of the admin apprentices goes round the school delivering and picking up trolleys from classrooms - but there's not enough time usually to get them around the school! For those of you who have trolleys, do you tend to have them per department, or per floor etc? Who does the responsibility for delivery and collection reside with? Cheers!
  2. For anyone coming from East Anglia today, all trains on the line between Norwich and London have been cancelled until at least 2pm! ....typically has to be the day I'm coming down haha
  3. Long day...no idea how I missed that thread! Thanks
  4. Hi all So, after years of asking previous employers to allow me to go, my current employer has let me out of the office for the day to visit Bett this year! My question to those in the know is this: are there any things which are either a must-see, or a must-avoid? I'm not a particularly active poster here on Edugeek but am a very active lurker on the forums, so would be good to chat to as many people as possible Cheers all!
  5. Just wondering if anybody else out there has attempted this and if there are any decent guides on how to complete this? We've found a couple of guides online but they're very disjointed and our Exchange 2003 box has pretty much given up the ghost now so we're in a bit of a hurry to get it done! We're wanting to migrate mailboxes from our Exchange 2003 box to Office 365 and retain SSO so that the staff here don't complain about having to log in twice (!). Any help would be appreciated; did a quick search on here and couldn't find anything! Cheers
  6. Thanks all for your replies! In the part of the country I'm in there aren't many people offering services such as this and those that are, are charging quite a lot of money for their service. I know it'd be a LOT of hard work - a lot of the schools I know of in the area tend to employ the consultants on a 'X days per academic year' basis and what we'd do is get everything in place to have contracts signed and therefore some steady income before we cut down hours in the current job. Luckily I'm also an accountant so the business-y accounting side of it would save a little money!
  7. Hi all I've been working in the IT Dep't at a school for a few years now and am considering leaving and starting up an IT Consultancy business with the person I work with. We've both been maintaining the school network and I also have teaching experience so can offer consultancy from a T&L perspective. Does anybody have any advice for a newly starting IT Consultancy company and any assistance as to how we would go about it? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hopefully just a quick one here - in our school environment we've recently noticed the list of all programs in the Win7 start menu includes a users own documents (ie. those which are within the 'My Documents' folder). We have a 'student' and a 'staff' start menu set up (the staff menu is as default, plus the student menu) using folder redirection. We're having no problems with the student start menu including their documents under the 'all programs' list, but we have the issue with staff. We have found that if we enable 'remove user's folders from the start menu' then this issue fixes itself and the 'all programs' list no longer includes a user's documents, but it will also remove the redirected start menu which includes the Student Programs folder. Therefore, at the moment, it seems we can either have staff seeing their own documents within their start menu-all programs list and them having access to the student menu, or their documents don't show within the all programs list but they can't see the student menu either... Anybody got any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!
