witch Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I wont be getting to Euston until about 11.43 and then the tube fight means I wont be getting to Bett until 12:30 - head bean counter wanted me to get cheaper tickets by arrive later and leaving later so hopefully going wont be as stressful. What day is this?

Northern Line to Bank DLR Bank DLR to Canning Town Canning Town to Prince Regent/Custom House or Victoria line to Green Park Underground Station Jubilee line to Canning Town Underground Station DLR to Prince Regent DLR Station Answer is both kick passengers out on Excel's doorstep so it doesn't really matter. Prince Regent is less crowded though as everyone gets off at Custom House. Coming from Euston, I'd say Northern to Bank and then DLR is the most direct. Just remember to tap in and out for the DLR leg as there are no barriers. 1

You are looking for these. The one at Custom House for example is at the top of the bridge on the right as it narrows and heads towards the Excel. 1
john Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Change before Canning Town can be advisable, The Beckton route is Tower Gateway <> Beckton so from Bank get ANY DLR going out from it and then step off at Shadwell and wait for the Beckton one and sit comfy for the ride to either Prince Regent or Custom House I asked my friend who is a PSA on the DLR if they are doing the shuttle service which the sometimes run for big events which is Canning Town / West Ham <> Prince Regent but he hasn't got back to me yet but I will post when I find out 1

john Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I am getting the feeling that I should be avoiding Canning Town at all costs Its a very busy station as its where 2 of the 4 DLR routes converge and has the Jubilee Line so you get a lot of people that come in from Norfolk and Essex into Stratford, change to Jubilee to go to Canary Wharf or out to Beckton or to Woolwich or head for Back and it gets busy. It is also the only public transport that is not a bus from London City Airport so its an incredibly busy spot when flights have landed, just after ExCeL you have Newham Councils mega office, you have a London Uni beyond that (Forgot which one it is) so its a lot of folk heading that way at peak time as well. To add to that you get a lot of folk using the DLR to avoid South Eastern and Southern Rail messes as they will jump onto the DLR and go around as its a lot more reliable than those services Its nice and manageable however if your standing around with bag lost at peak time you will get shoved / poked to move out of the way by the regulars who just need to get moving!

[ATTACH=CONFIG]40891[/ATTACH] If you have a paper ticket just walk on to the train and walk out of the station. You may have your paper ticket checked on a DLR train, but nowhere else. If you are using Oyster, your Debit/Credit card or "The Key" then you must tap in before getting on the train and tap out when you get off. At Custom House there is a machine at the top of the stairs as you come off the platform. It will have a long queue; ignore it. There are another 3 or 4 at the top of the ramp; use one of those instead! 1

Due to a derailed train at Lewisham: Impact: Train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day. What's happened? -------------------- A freight train has derailed in the Lewisham area How does this affect my journey? ------------------------------------ Trains cannot run between Dartford and Lewisham via Sidcup. A shuttle service is being arranged to run between Sidcup and Dartford. Trains cannot run from Hayes to Lewisham. A shuttle train service is being arranged to run between Hayes and New Beckenham. Trains from Hastings towards London will be diverted to London Bridge via Redhill. Trains from Ramsgate that normally run to Charing Cross will be diverted to London Victoria. Services that normally start and terminate at Tunbridge Wells are suspended. Services that normally start and terminate at Sevenoaks are suspended. What do I need to do? ------------------------ Tickets will be accepted on all London bus routes, as well as London Underground. Thameslink, Tramlink and Docklands Light Railway services. Let's hope they can sort this out by tomorrow!

john Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 If you are using a debit/contactless card for your journeys, remember to use the same one for the whole day, otherwise if you use one for one journey and another for the return, it will be an expensive day out. and also don't swap between actual card and Apple / Android pay even using the same card just the virtual version as it doesn't detect it as the same card aparantly so you can end up penalty fared. It is also worth signing up for a TfL account and registering your contactless card on it so you can check after for issues - https://contactless.tfl.gov.uk/

Some trains are going to Victoria and some to London Bridge via Redhill (which takes ages) Travelling tomorrow? While repairs to the track at Lewisham continue, there will be some changes to train services so please make sure you check before you travel.

Have decided to make it more interesting by going via the tube to Westminster, river boat and cable car as it doesn't take much longer than going via tube / DLR. Will be jumping on the cattle train on the way back though, but thanks for the tip regarding Prince Regent station.

Euston > Circle Line > Tower Hill Turn left out of the station and it's a 2 minute walk to Tower Gateway DLR DLR to Custom House (train is going to Beckton) 1
