w00dy01 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 As the title says.... Is anyone brave enough to jump both feet in at the deep end or planning on waiting for the inevitable bugs to be fixed?
Greg Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 It's been on some of our test systems since it was released on the 4th. All looks ok so far and no re-release in over a week...
3s-gtech Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Hahahahahaha No. I don't fancy making my users guineau pigs, nor building a SIMS testing VM. Anyone else that does fancy it though, be sure to share your experiences here rather than Supportnet so we can easily see them. We'll deploy it about two days before it's required for PLASC.
BKGarry Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Two days before the school census, your brave! I start dry runs at least 3 weeks before to make sure everyone fixes and checks their sections. We have an LEA license of ours, so we have to wait until they release it, but not in a rush.
Griff Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I was about to pull the trigger on this tonight as I had seen it sat on SOLUS for ages says release date was 12/10/2016? has it only just been released?

It will have been released to a limited amount of people for testing first, then sent to everyone.

caffrey Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Just installed at the behest of our data manager - appears to have installed fine, I guess I won't know till tomorrow

Yeah, slight exaggeration but you get the idea. Having had to deploy multiple patches for issues, as well as deal with subsequently withdrawn releases, I tend to let the dust settle now. 1
Griff Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 rolling back on the SOLUS 3.11.56 upgrade atm seems to have gone belly up so bored of this, just a colossal waste of my time whenever I do anything involving SIMS
Ausy Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Deployed tonight, all went well. See tomorrow if users report any issues.
Koldov Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 We've had various Autumn releases on our SOLUS for a while now (as far as I know we have never offered ourselves as guinea pigs)! See the dates on my screenshot (second post). http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/176615-autumn-patch.html I for one am certainly NOT an early adopter, I like to sit back and wait for everything to be fixed before I unleash anything into a production environment. I always wondered who those people were that found out what things weren't safe to eat... Now I know! Don't get me wrong, I know many advancements in the world have been made by people taking risks (or pure fluke accidents) and I applaud those willing to do so.
splattthecat Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 We have upgraded our approx. 250 schools to SOLUS 3.11 this week, with relatively few problems, and will be pushing out the SIMS upgrade on 21st to 23rd November.
ITGURU Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I always wait a while before applying. It will be done the last week of term here!
Griff Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Capita had to re-install SOLUS on our server to get 3.11.56 on it, credit where its due the engineers I deal with on the enhanced service desk are always pretty sound guys/girls and get it done fairly timely. Will try and do the Autumn update tonight, fingers crossed
Hardeep_Sco Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 All, I have been advised by Capita, not to upgrade any schools to the Autumn Release 2016 7.172 until the schools have had both their School Census and School Workforce Census authorised by the DfE. I wanted to know if you all are going to wait until all your schools have had both Authorised or are you going to release it? Thanks
speckytecky Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 It was my belief that usually the Census couldn't run unless the update had been applied? All, I have been advised by Capita, not to upgrade any schools to the Autumn Release 2016 7.172 until the schools have had both their School Census and School Workforce Census authorised by the DfE. I wanted to know if you all are going to wait until all your schools have had both Authorised or are you going to release it? Thanks
Boredguy Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I always have to install it before our staff can do the census.
siuko Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 I am guessing they mean don't update it until the October 2016 census has been authorised (the last dfe email showed a few schools who had still not authorised) If you install the 7.172 update it will contain the information for the January 2017 census (and I guess possibly not allow you to run the October 2016 any longer?)
Hardeep_Sco Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Yeah Sorry, I should have said that Capita have advised me not to Upgrade any schools to the 7.172 release until the Autumn Census and Workforce Census 2016 has been authorised by the DfE. Thanks
