Ephelyon Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Agreed with all above! One thing I wouldn't mind hearing in particular is: how long did it take for the insurance company to process the request for new kit (servers in particular)? I wouldn't mind knowing how long we'd have to be using our cold site DR kit for...
FragglePete Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Well done you, @DSapsied, got a mention in Computing. http://www.computing.co.uk/ctg/news/2474599/school-burns-down-but-data-recovered-in-hours-with-redstor-cloud-solution Good job sir! Pete
NetworkNinja Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Does anyone have a copy of a Disaster Recovery Plan they could send me to have a look and read through. I would like to create one for our academy but have no clue where to start. Thanks Guys
NetworkNinja Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 hows it going @DSapseid? I was wondering the same thing, haven't seen any updates for a while. This thread has pushed me to create a DR plan and move towards cloud back-up. you never know when something like this could happen. 1

Popular Post DSapseid Posted January 9, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2017 Hi Everyone, Sorry for not updating for a while! We are now pretty much back to normal, just a few things left outstanding to complete as a result of the fire. We moved into the 'Porta Cabin village' during October half term and it was a long week!! 2 new racks built and filled with new servers & switches. 150+new i5 desktops and 22" screens 25 SMART Interactive TV Panels with sound bars Ruckus Wifi LG Phone System Lilin CCTV Have all been installed and working nicely. At the end of last week we have now got the first draft of the plans for the rebuild and it does look really nice and im looking forward to being involved in the build. The only major thing that is still an issue is the internet. In the fact that BT/Virgin have still yet to re-install the leased line - nearly 5 months after ordering!! It should hopefully be in by the end of January! As part of the new build they are replacing our previous 750 capacity school with a 450 capacity secondary and a junior school 240 capacity on the same site. We are currently just under 400 students so we will still have scope for extra students. We are also getting a conference hall/theater as part of the build which will be able to used by the community as well. Attached are a few pictures of the 'boulevard' of portacabins and also a picture of what the front of the new school is going to look like. Looking forward to BETT this year and next to get ideas for the new build! 12
Jaan Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Glad to see and hear you doing OK! Every Cloud (based backup) has a silver lining and all.... new render looks great! 3g/4g router not an option to get afew core systems online? Also, once everything has settled down (so to speak), we're going to be looking at our back up strategy soon. Would love to see yours....i'm sure most of us would. Congrats and everything you've achieved! Now get some sleep!

CAM Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Anyone want a sweepstake on how long until the last cabin is pulled down? We all have that temporary building on-site that has been around a few decades past it's intended use-by date. 1

Congrats and everything you've achieved! Now get some sleep! Were currently working on a satelitte broadband piggy backing off the static caravan site that backs onto our field where we are based now so we have some broadband, it should be 45mb but its slow to load pages, once your on its fine but its a bit sluggish. Servers backing up into the cloud was the first thing i got working! 1

We all have that temporary building on-site that has been around a few decades past it's intended use-by date. The amount these are costing to rent they will be gone rather quickly once they are no longer in use!! The old cabin that we had as part of the old school that survived the fire is being pulled down as part of the rebuild thank god! 2
PotNoodleTech Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Lol your portacabin IT suite is better than our permanent IT suites! And yes agree on the "temporary accommodation" we've got a portacabin from the 1960s still.
AJWhite1970 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 And yes agree on the "temporary accommodation" we've got a portacabin from the 1960s still. Our temporary portacabins that were installed in 1964 met an untimely end last summer. They are missed by no-one.. 1
rad Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 @DSapseid just caught up with the update (missed it back in January) So glad everything is going well for you and the school. Out of interest, classrooms are easy to sort, what have they done for the school eating area/canteen, library, main hall, reception, sports hall? I suppose you just "get on with it" but we take some areas for granted. Well Done and keep going. The new school building will feel like luxury after the portable units. (Not using the name in case they aren't that manufacture!)

(Not using the name in case they aren't that manufacture!) We have a separate canteen block with full kitchen for the catering team. We have a 12mx18m school hall and a 10mx15m library made of 6 & 5 units to create one big space. We were lucky that our sports hall was a completely separate building across a car park on our site so that survived the fire, it also had a reception desk in as the original build had it being used in evenings for community lettings but that desk was never used. This building has access to the road so that is now our new temporary reception. Ill get some pictures of the canteen, library and hall. 2
Fazza Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Glad all is going well for you - looking forward to seeing some photos

Popular Post DSapseid Posted March 7, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2017 Some pictures of our food tech classroom (there is a second row of these to the right), a standard classroom, canteen, hall and the library. 16
limawhiskey Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 That's impressive. I won't show it to our lot here otherwise they'll be 'accidentally' putting some oily rags in the tumble dryer! 1

Looking good - given the history though your fire officer might get nervous about the flags in your languages room. 1

Glad to see things are moving on and your doing well!!!
Popular Post DSapseid Posted June 28, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 28, 2018 Been just over a year since my last update! The new build is progressing nicely should be ready in early 2019. The novelty of the temporary accommodation has well and truly worn off! There freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer! But they could be worse i know. 11
hardtailstar Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 Blimey over a year! How is the network holding up?
