localzuk Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 In a similar vein to the cool and annoying things threads, I thought I'd start one for the oddest things we end up doing each day... So, I'll kick it off with digging a small trench across the school field, so that the speakers can be placed in the right place for sports day. Out there, in slight spitting rain, in my suit with the shiniest presentation spade ever, digging a trench. And that's before 9am! What strange thing(s) have you been up to today? 1

localzuk Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Ha! That might've been a bit overkill for our needs.
smithson83 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Ha! That might've been a bit overkill for our needs. Over...what, I don't know what you mean... MORE POWER!!! 1
bald_pig Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I laid under my desk for ten minutes, remoted onto my desktop above from my phone... 4
Oaktech Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 You'd be pretty pissed if you missed connecting the next bit of hose on...
misslp Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Replaced speaker and amp system for a local primary school as the AV company were going to charge a fair bit of money! Had fun with the drilling part of things (haven't had to do this before in any of my IT jobs, now worried that word will get around and my services will be in demand). Another thing to add to my job specification/description... (or does this under the 'any other duties as outlined...')
AJWhite1970 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 In my old job I was forever being called out to reverse the mobile learning centre out of car parks as the driver was fine going forwards but couldn't reverse the 40 foot trailer unit for toffee. As I was bought up on a farm I can reverse pretty much anything blindfold. Once he even managed to get it stuck behind a tree in a massive playing field. Happy times
witch Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Got called into year 5 to remove a massive spider. What was interesting was that somehow the teachers knew that I wouldn't be afraid. The spider was beautiful - I didn't want to put it outside as it was raining - I got a lot of stick for that
sparkeh Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) Got called into year 5 to remove a massive spider. What was interesting was that somehow the teachers knew that I wouldn't be afraid. The spider was beautiful - I didn't want to put it outside as it was raining - I got a lot of stick for that I had to do that for our secretary today as there was a huge spider in a box of uniforms and she has proper arachnophobia. At least she asked me this time, last time she saw a spider she shoved me in the store cupboard, locked the door and ran off. Oh and good idea for a thread. My recent strange one was to catch a parrot. Edited July 6, 2016 by sparkeh
Popular Post smithson83 Posted July 6, 2016 Popular Post Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) We had a spider living in the wall between two offices at a previous job. We named him Aragog (he was quite large), and mocked him up a Staff ID EDIT: He was head of IT User relations if I remember correctly Edited July 6, 2016 by smithson83 5
AJWhite1970 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 @witch if you are a fan of spiders, next time you are up here I'll let you spend some time in our 16th century wine cellar, there are some massive ones down there guarding the complementary wine bottles, even Indiana Jones would think twice about disturbing them!!! 1
sparkeh Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 ...16th century wine cellar ... complementary wine bottles ... I want to work at your school! *hic* edit: yes back to topic! 1
sted Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 someone was carrying an inflatable shark down the corridor and I noticed about 1/2 of one side was covered in health and safety notices so ive just spend a few minutes reading a shark just to see what they wrote 3
cherd84 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Popped outside to see how sports day was going. It got a bit gusty so I ended up holding a gazebo down for my fellow tech who was manning the music/PA system. 2
