If I was spending that much on shoes I'd want them to last longer.

 

I had a cheap pair of Ben Sherman shoes that lasted me about 4 years of daily use. think I only paid £30...

 

I do walk 15 to 20 miles a day in them so they get a real hammering.

I just got rid of my last pair of £20 ASDA shoes after 3 years and replaced them with another pair of £20 shoes, this time from Deichmann. Don't see why they won't last me another three years to be honest.

Last pair of Hugo Boss shoes at £149 a pair lasted me 18 months, just replaced them this month with another pair of them. Before that the Prada shoes at around £400 a pair were extremely comfortable and lasted me over 2 years. All worn more or less everyday.

Prior to my buying the Cheaney shoes, the most I'd ever spent on footwear was £200 on a pair of Diadora motorcycle boots. They've been back to the factory twice for resoling and to have a new catch fitted, but they are still going and I bought them in 2002, so yeah, I'd want them to last longer than a couple of years!

your motorbike boots sound like my hiking boots £200 Zamberlan boots bought 24 years ago when i was 17 , just started to let water in now must have done a few thousand miles in them very very comfy boots . the solution to the leaks... sealskin socks and carry on wearing them

I'm not sure that works, though. I normally spend £20 on a pair that lasts me a year or more (though have been unlucky with the last pair!). A pair from Church's costs (IIRC, can find prices on their site atm) £400, which means they'd have to last 20 years without resoling or other expenses.

 

I say Church's because I know someone who works in their factory. I could never justify buying a pair of their shoes (and can't find any I like anyway!) but going near shoes with her is a nightmare: "Look at the stitching on that! We'd never let one out of the gate looking like that!" etc.

Try Geox - I've had several types and have found they are good quality, last well + have breathable soles, not something many (anyone?) offer. Possibly best bought from an outlet centre, but still cheaper than Hugo Boss even at normal retail prices.

Wow, thank you for all the responces. Specifically I was talking about footwear at work. I seem to have burnt through some brands like Clarks and Hush Puppies very quickly, though I will look into the different ranges of Clarks suggested, as well as all the other wonderful recommendations. A common pattern I am seeing at the moment is the rubber base of the shoes are somehow splitting.

Rubber soles splitting is a problem that I've come across. Not had it for a while as I've been avoiding that sort of sole. I've also tried to train myself to keep my feet flat when crouching rather than use the balls of my feet, thus bending the soles badly.

My current work trotters are New Balance trainers - as we have a casual "IT TEAM" embroidered polo t-shirts we can wear trainers or shoes which are black or blue.

Lems 9to5 or Boulder Boot for me, great for anyone with foot problems.

You honestly can't go wrong with a pair of Converse. I've had mine for over a year and they're still going strong.

 

Depending on the colour you get, you can wear them for smart or casual.

Love my Hotters for work . Really light and comfortable and lasted 3 years so far. I like gore tex shoes as they seem to breathe a bit. My steelies get a bit sweaty by the end of the day!

The best walking boots I had were Meindl. I could walk miles in them and feel fine. They lasted about 7 years.

Clarks Star Stride - Black Leather - Mens Casual Shoes | Clarks

These Clarks shoes for work, £85 but last about 2 years, great sole. My last pair of these the laces wore away and snapped before the sole did.

 

My everyday shoes are Merrells that are waterproof and cost £100+
