Smartwatches

For Xmas i got a toprime activity tracker which is a bit like a fitbit however the app made no sense at all (it was literally english converted from chinese) and parts if it didn't work so its going back.

 

Im looking at smartwatches around the £50 - £60 mark from amazon. I know, they will be cheaper alternative to a samsung gear or sony smart watch 3 (there is a sony sm2 listed for £78).

 

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a cheap ish smartwatch or should i not bother with the cheap end of the smartwatch market?

I've got an original Pebble Steel, which I still think is a good option. They just updated the software so the experience is similar to the new Pebbles. You get just under a week of battery life and they are fully waterproof. No heart rate monitor or GPS but there are apps like Misfit for step counting and sleep monitoring plus of course other apps for notifications etc.

I managed to pick-up the Original Microsoft Band for £60, I'd probably say its worth it if you can get it for around that price still.

I've heard a lot of stories about how bad the build quality and battery life are on those. Might have got better with the later ones but I'd recommend a band 2 rather than a band 1, though the cost a bit more.

Not having any real problems so far. Undoubtedly the Band 2 is better but its was a big cost jump when I was looking.

 

I'd probably be more concerned if I had paid full price for it.

I've got the bog standard pebble, love it! Does what is says on the tin with over a week battery life.

I've had my Sony SmartWatch for a while now and I love it. Battery lasts 2 days and it does all sorts of crap I don't use

 

I'd say save a bit longer and spend a bit more on one. Buy cheap buy twice!!! (As you have found out!)

O2 had the Microsoft Band (v1) on offer for £31.99 a few weeks back... a few of us managed to get some and for that price can't really complain!

I do like that feature to imitate other brand watches, I have an Apple Watch Sport here which I love, was bought as a present for me, though its more than the price in the original post.

I've a FitBit Charge HR which I use for steps, heart rate, sleep monitoring and the various social challenges (and a Garmin Forerunner 10 for tracking runs, segments etc via GarminConnect)

 

Interested to know what did you find better about the functionality of the Apple Watch?

The FitBit is as smart as I want a watch to be, it's light so you forget you're wearing it, the support team are amazing and HR monitor is still fun after 6 months

They're down to £79 on Amazon and Tesco Direct.

I have a Pebble Kickstarter edition, and I love the original Pebbles. I think they're down to around £50 now. They've just been updated to the new Pebble Time interface, which is great. Doesn't do heartrate monitoring, but I find that having physical buttons is more useful than a touchscreen for me. I use it a lot for cycling and being able to change music tracks/volume with gloves on.
