just got a teacher ring up and say my mouse wont click on anything, so i walk down with a new mouse and yes it would not click on any of the desktop icons

Then i thought wait a minute, had a look at the desktop background picture and they had done the old screen shot of the desktop and delete the icons trick on her acount,

so have you come across anything that u found really funny even though you have to put on a proffesional face and make out your not impressed?

I walked into an IT suite and the teacher complains to me (in front of her class) 'this keyboard is really wobbly, I can't work like this' etc. etc. I calmly walk up and put the other keyboard leg out!! Her class just looked at her in disbelief as did I.

Works best if you create a folder called My Porn before you take the screen grab.

Yes, lol. We did that to a trainee teacher once - shame his laptop was connected to a projector at the time..... :D

That must have been embarrassing for her.

I can't think of anything that has amused me although I've not been working in a school for long.

Slight change of topic - things teachers do that you shouldn't really laugh at but do...

Everyday, like turning monitors on, turning volume controls up, turning projectors on, putting paper in printers & turning them on, turning CAPS lock off, showing someone how to get the pictures off the digital camera which is just a case of putting it back on the docking station and then following the wizard that pops up on the screen and then hearing:

' Oh, I must make a note of that ' - funny thing is there is a large ICT part of the staff notice board with basic IT use notices on. I even print them on A3 with LARGE TEXT, pictures and arrows !!

Problem I now have is my proffesional face has worn out....

A teacher said when they typed the wrong letters came up. I went to take a look and they had gone a switched some of the keys round.

Accidentally turning on NumLock on a laptop is a common cause of that one, too.

'Help Help' cried the teacher 'the world has stopped spinning'. whats the matter i replied ' we are trying to play a video through the projector onto the white board and it doesn't work.

so over i trundled unplugged the video player from headphone socket of her laptop and plugged it into the wall socket for the IWB.

she still can't look at me without going red. Bless

Had a few students come up to me complaining they couldn't log on, so I trundle over to the room and turns out the whole class can't log on.

I turn my attention to the power socket on the wall where the Wireless Points are (Laptop Trolley, which is quite stationary at the moment due to wheels breaking!) and flick the switch. Teacher lets out an "Of course!"

I wouldnt mind, but its the third time in as many days that I have had to do it!

True story.

Got called to a suite by a science teacher, a Doctor at that.

Conversation went "This computer does not work"

I looked at the "computer".

Ah, I said, have you tried switching it on?

Look of disbelief, then he turned, tried to switch on the computer.

At this point he hit a stumbling block, there was a mouse, a keyboard, a monitor but no F****ing Computer, It had been taken away the previous week to be fixed.

We have one of those "computers" in our IT Suite at the moment - it's surprising how long someone will sit there waving the mouse to turn off the screensaver before they realise something is up!

I ended up taking the mouse and keyboard away too, and will return them when I put the PC back...

1. Keyboard letters swapped round to form swearwords

2. Kids that lean on my "service hatch" and say "WOW, this door is thick!". We always respond with "Suits you.."...it's only a shelf on a normal door..

3.The repeated cries of "I had yer mum last night", and "yer mum", "yer mum", "I had yer nan", then usually a smack as the first kid hauls off...got to love "fight club" as they're known.

4. One of the more physical Year 11s last year who evicted a pond dweller from our office with a punch, and a well executed "throw him through the doorway" move.

5. A kid that stood here and told the head we should "Switch to open source instead of the Joke that is Windows, and spend the license money on improving the student resources"..bless, I creased.

6. Kids that got wise to SMT's cheapo radios, and got some from tesco on the same channel..calling SLT out to spoof calls, and randomly belching down their sets..

I know it is probably very unprofessional but there have been times a kid has had a deserving slap (usually because they think they can get away with it as I am standing near) & when they have whined I have apologised and explained that I blinked at that moment or I'm blind in that eye so couldn't see anything.

Also having some friendly large Y11s are always helpful if someone needs removing from a corridor.

They are funny here...I know we have a bit of a rep around local schools, but bless them, they're essentially good kids with a good sense of humour.

Whenever we go to the secondary tech meetings, we bring up a list of failings our kids have found or hacks they've accomplished, and the LEA/NGFL/other schools just look shocked. Such things as "if you pull the cat5 out of the PC at just the right moment in the login process, you can get local admin access to the machine", and "BTW, is this your local admin password on the domain? One of the kids used LOPHCrack in the community library and found it.."

We had one incident last year where someone jumped over the fence and threatened a year 10...they were taken away in an ambulance, as unfortunatly, Year 11 weren't far away and they all piled in.

Also had the "all out turf war" with a neighbouring school..lunchtime, the school is silent. We all look at each other and whisper "uh-oh.."..then we see the kids all going hell for leather across the field towards the school shouting "OPEN THE BLOODY DOORS!"..they all piled in, ran to classrooms and sat trying to look innocent. One class said to me "If anyone asks, we were here all the time, OK sir?"

When I asked why..."We were decking the other lot, and the police arrived... They let the dogs out...that's why we were running..."..

The sight of the entire school doing the "who? US? No, we were here..mud? What mud? oh, THAT? No idea....." was absolutely priceless..

Desktop backgrounds cannot be changed and the desktop itself is read only here for all staff, so they really can't pull that one :D

I was re-issueing a laptop to a teacher and it had a slight split in the plastic in one corner. He promptly said..... "won't that let the water in?" whereby I replied that using ones lappy in the bath is not reccommended.:D

When we get the new intake of Y5 kids, I have to give them a pep talk about ICT Suite protocol. I hate kids constantly calling my name out whilst I am working with someone else and what really gets me is when they wander over and poke me. To make the point, I tell them that I was in the SAS and my instinct is to react first. As I said this I noticed a Y6 kid walking across the playground on crutches with his arm in a sling.

"He poked me before the holidays and look at him now!" I said.

The look on their faces was a treat.
