  1. Yeah, I have got it working now. Pain in the ar$e though. Deployed it to clients as well, and they seem to work, which is a novelty. Did take me a whole day and a phonecall to their tech support (who knew what they were on about, so must have had plenty of calls before). Before deploying to clients, I manually edited the fuseconfig.config file to point to the right directory and bingo! Who'da thunk it could work!
  2. I'll come in here as well....Our Head of Geography wants to use some programs that BBC have recently been showing. I am 99.7% sure that we have the ERA+ license, but how can we stop the DRM downloading the rights after the 28 day expiration? Is it something to contact BBC about? Cheers Edit: Found what I am looking for. Looks like iPlayer isn't covered by the ERA+ license
  3. Lovingly I have been given some OxBox software to install on our system. I hate the stuff. I have followed the guide they give, but alas, it still can't connect to the database on the client, despite me telling it where the installation path is. So i uninstall from the client....and stupidly click yes to uninstall the database, where it deletes it from the server (thought it couldn't connect to it...) Anyways, I go to uninstall from the server, and it won't uninstall, throwing up a "UninstallutilLib.dll:Unknown Error" Fine, I think...I'll try and install the OTHER piece of Oxbox software that was goven to me at the same time. Before I tell the client the apparent wrong database information again...can anyone give me exact details of what to put in, that actually works. Everyone has the right permissions on the folder...yet it still fails to connect. Please help a frustrated person!!
  4. went for an install on the server....and instant success! The students can now save .aup files. Just need to test the load times etc with a full class loading it, which is where the next problem lies...
  5. it is indeed a local install of Audacity. It does work with an admin log-in, and very very occasionally works with a student login, but is as rare as rocking horse manure! I didn't know they had to be uncompressed .wav files, but our students don't have a quota, so it they *should* be ok with that, as long as they dont hang around on there for too long! I will experiment installing on the network and seeing what happens. Is there a specific place that Audacity tries to save the temporary files (eg. the installation directory)
  6. Our students are trying to use Audacity for ICT work to create radio commercials, however, when trying to save Audacity Projects, it is saying the file destination is full, or they do not have write permissions. This I would accept, but there is 120Gb of free space and the students have full control over their home directories. According to the Audacity forums, the problem has been rectified in 1.3.10, however, that is the version we are using and it is still showing the error, so I am a bit confused. has anyone else experienced the issue and if you have, how have you rectified it?! Cheers!
  7. I'll throw my hat in as well....anyone got an MSI for the latest version of Audacity? Have been asked to update our current installations, as out IT teacher is going to teach himself how to use Audacity over the Christmas break, so would like the same version so the students can access the same version that he is trying to teach them!
  8. just a quick one really...I have searched for a while, but can't find an answer. How long do you keep ex-students work for? I am eager to delete last year's year 11's work to free up 40gb of space on the server! Answers please!!
  9. There could well be some editing required. We have Serif MoviePlus, which should do the trick. The camera's we have at the minute only record in 720x576 which looks a little stretched on a computer screen, so on a TV screen at home, god knows how it will look!! Currently using JVC Everioa GZ-MG155 which were just cheap ones to buy last year for basic videoing, but they arent quite up to scratch for recording lessons
  10. Hey guys, fingers crossed you can help me out! Our learning and teaching people are going to start recording lessons for examples of good practice and the sharing of said good practice, with a view to having a library of DVD's that staff can take home and look to see how they can improve their own lessons etc. For this, obviously we need a decent Video Camcorder. Budget wise, I have no idea how much I can spend on one (as the ones we have dont exactly give great video) but obviously I wont have a great deal of money available! What I am after is some suggestions of decent camcorders which will record video in high quality and with decent sound. Oh, and also record it in a format I don't have to convert so I can put it on DVD!! Help is muchos appreciated!!
  11. I'll agree. I am sending it through to a Sony AV Receiver, and it is superb.
  12. I have a Tosh 42" and it is superb, in fact, it is remarkably similar to the one shown. The picture quality is superb, and havent experienced any problems in a year of ownership. I run my Xbox through the HDMI connection, and it really is superb. Can fully recommend it.
  13. mst's? Serif do have MSI's that you can use. They are included on the disks from Serif. Haven't installed them on a CC4 network, but they have worked across our system perfectly.
  14. We run .bat files to shutdown and WOL the machines here. We use Scheduled Tasks on the server to run the scripts so that the machines shutdown and wake up at the same time every day.
  15. worked a treat, cheers. Now, just to disable the standby time, and to find the entry in the registry!
  16. I know..thread from the past...but thought I would resurrect this thread rather than create a new one! Is there anyway of completely disabling the "logon" screensaver, so that if the computer stays at the login screen long enough, it doesn't go into screensaver, it just stays with the login screen visible Oh, and the easy way if possible...not editing registry's on all computers!!
  17. Cancel this! After just over an hour playing about with settings etc, it has done it from a machine that picks up the script via GPO, but wont do it from my machine. Won't play about too much for fear of upsetting the balance!
  18. Hey all, We have just bought an HP P3005dn to replace the colour laser printer in our staff work area (cost of toner replacements being the main reason). It is installed and printing perfectly, except for the fact I can't seem to get it to Duplex print as default. I have played about with the settings, and still nothing. Duplex is indicated as "ON" on the menu system, and through the web interface, but when altering the printing defaults on the server, it doesnt retain them. I even created my own profile, however I can't set that as the default one. Any ideas?! PLEASE!!
  19. we manage it by "no member of staff = no use of equipment" no complaints here!
  20. Can this be run at startup of the machine then using a script?
  21. sorry, forgot to say, it has 6 72gb drives installed already
  22. Just bought 2 new 72gb drives for our HP ProLiant ML370 G5, so we can start putting resources on it, and have space left over! Now, being fairly new to the technical world of servers and RAID setups etc, how can I put these in, and then re-configure the server to use the new drives? The server has been setup to use RAID5, but want a fairly idiot proof () guide to help me if possible!! Cheers all!
  23. Thanks for the replies. I mentioned having a machine set up with a scanner attached, but it was considered too much hassle to expect the students to log on to that machine, then scan, then go back to the machine they are working at The cheap scan and cable alternative seems the best...but how can I save myself the leg work of installing the software on 21 machines?
  24. Hey all, Our Graphics teacher wants a scanner that the students can access to use. His plan was to get a couple of scanners and long USB leads (5m+, possible health and safety?) so they could reach various desks. I dont have too much a problem with this, apart from the obvious issue of installing the software on 21 machines (not a fun task). My thought was to acquire a network scanner (HP Scanjet 7650N to name it), and use that. Has anyone got any experience with this scanner, or indeed, got a better solution?! Cheers
  25. super job! That'll do nicely! cheers! I have been playing, but couldn't get it quite right!
