exchange 2003 multiple user configuration
chalkwellstu replied to chalkwellstu's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks FN-GM, i will have a sniff about. Stu -
hello fellow geeks, i have just set up an exchange 2003 server and created the mailboxes for all the students. what i need to do now is set up roaming profiles for each one. i have done this but am having an issue with the outlook stuff. i think i have sussed the ost/pst issue by sticking it on a network share but the mailbox is proving a pain. at present it seems i have to log on to each user, then start outlook and set create the first outlook profile that way. when its created i then have to go back in and change it to point at the mailbox on the exchange server and not the local one. how can i do this without having to log on to each user account? thanks in advance Stu.

yeah, as far as i know. i have located the dodgy router (by a process of elimination) and switched it off. the two laps that were left were just hanging onto the addresses i think. i recycled the card which did the trick. i am now jumping on the phone to the supplier to get someone in to sort this. thanks everyone for all your input. Stu

yeah they do but i cant access them via the assigned ip and on the odd occasion when i have got through the supplied username and password dont work. (hence the rather heated phone call this week to the supplier) i thought i had sussed it as by switching off one of the routers i was getting evryone back online. i have two left that it doesn't work for though which is kinda blowing my theory out the water.

i see where your coming from now. we only have one dhcp and as far as i can see its only issueing our 10.132.16 range. thats all that is in the address pool anyway. i am wondering if one of the sonicwalls is acting as a dhcp but i cant access them to find out. i am gona switch them off one at a time and see whether that range stops getting transmitted. i'll keep you posted.

ok powered off/on all routers and re-connected to the school network re-entering the wep key. still have the same issue. however, i mislead you before i cant see the server (my dyslexia kicked in again!) i can only ping a 192.168.11.1 which i cant find either!
-
i am using sonicwall's. i think they must be the problem as i cant access them. it is probably just one or two of them as some laptops are ok. i am going to try resetting all of them and see what that does. thanks guys, really appreciate your help on this one. Stu.
-
ah ha, i hadn't and have just checked. i CAN ping the server but when i types ipconfig -all it showed that the default gateway and dns server were a completely different ip range. they were on a 192.168 range. we use a 10.132 range. ????? really confused now

Ok, i have 15 laptops all hooked into my wireless network. The issue is that on some of them they connect to network fine and have a good signal strength but ..... they cant see the server. they have the pc icon in the bottom right which i use to re-sync the offline files and this fails saying that it cant see the server. every now and then the laptopn will sync and all is fine untill it drops out again. they dont seem to loose connection to the network just access to the server. i am not a network buff by any means and am completely and utterly stumped by this. any help would be most gratefully recieved. thanks all Stu

Mmmm i agree, when i ordered the boxes i explained my intention to downgrade and they said that all necessary disks etc would be with them. it turns out that there are no disks as they create a recovery partition. Watch this space ....
-
there Novatech boxes ...
-
Thanks Mrforgetful, i am not going to assume that the recovery disks etc have the necessary disks; is there a single place where i can download all necessary drivers as a zip or collective download? Stu.

i'm with Nick on this one. just taken delivery of a load of vista business lap/desktop's and am preparing to downgarde them to xp pro. i am keeping one back as vista to suss out and check against existing edu software. Already found that deamontools insn't compatible with no fix as yet, plus there is an issue with home directory re-direction via GPO that appears to be a vista 'feature' . once server 2008 is out and bedded in i believe would be the time to consider rolling out vista but by getting the business license and downgrading i'm covered for future upgrades. anyone know of any issue's in the downgrade process? Stu

Hey just found this http://vistavitals.blogspot.com/2007/10/folder-redirection-not-to-users-home.html as i am looking into why my new vista laptop isn't red-directing the home at all!! thought it might be useful Stu

ooooo nice one Nick thanks.

i have it running througha belkin e series 4 port ps/2 kvm, however it used to work through it !! now it doesn't. the keyboard connection is definately an issue as even i plug directly into the box it doesn't work no m atter what keyboard i use. the only one that worked was the usb one that Nick suggested. what i haven't done is try and boot it without the kvm at all! i'll give that a go although i suspect thats not the issue here but you never know. Stu

Ok Nick i tried a usb keybopard and it worked! however still had the original problem so stuck again. comes up with media error check cable then no rom basic system halted. oh well worth a try, any other ideas?
